Bits and Pieces

May 13, 2025

I hope Mother’s Day was satisfying for you! I enjoyed the day off, and I basically took the whole day off to appreciate my home, kids, health and nature. It was refreshing to be able to do this. Jay used to call it “a housecoat day”, for those of you who remember what a housecoat is! For those who don’t, it’s just something very comfy and soft, usually loose or else very stretchy, to wear and to be totally at ease in all day long. My body and my brain get to just “vege out”, no cares, no worries. Lots of deep and healthy breathing from the couch, Murfee on one side, Emi on the other, Wee Willie in his bed snoring away peacefully. I think it was a day of total contentment for us all. I hope you had one just as nice, just as happy! It’s that “Stop and smell the roses” kind of atmosphere that we all need once in a while! That Jimmy Buffet easy kind of spring day.

Matter of fact, it’s kind of hard to get back out of that relaxing frame of mind, back into the normal pace of things. But I’m trying! Unsuccessfully, I might add!!! I’m placing a re-order for the new Tula Pink line of the beautiful large owls, bunnies, fish, birds, since you seem to like them so much that they’re flying off the shelves. Pun was definitely intended!  We have plenty to choose from, and more on the way. Another re-order is the large National Parks panel, and we have the full sized sample hanging in the shop for you to see. If you bought the National Parks panels last year, that’s great, but know that this is NOT a duplicate!!! All of the pictures taken from the parks are different, and just as wonderful! But just like last year, if you want one, get it now because we may not be able to get more for you!

The large and wonderful cat panel and accompanying fabrics have arrived, so come in and get yours ASAP, while we still have them. The collection name is “Gigi’s Garden”, and there are additional fabrics with the panel; one is a pansy design, one is of butterflies, and the other coordinates are the ones we chose for the sample! All look great! And then we have a great cat with hat panel that’s new, and I especially like the flowers the cat is sitting in! We have a new steampunk-style for you also on the wall, and JoAnn is finishing a red/white/blue patriotic 3-yard quilt for you to see. I really think the three yard quilts are great: 3 fabrics, easy designs, look complicated, quick to do. Take a look at this new one and see if you like the plaid border I chose for it. I usually choose a dark border to stop the eye from traveling off the quilt, but I loved this plaid fabric so I thought we’d give it a try for something new! Let me know what you think. I’m anxious to see it, also!

You are liking the velvet Luxe panels I’ve gotten in, so I ordered a few more kits for you to check out, some with this new double-sided minkee type feel. Because it’s double sided and printed on both sides, it’s ideal for a very quick baby or young child quilt. Just add a border, and you can be done! You can use ribbon, bias tape, make your own cotton border strips, serge the edges, zigzag the edges with your domestic machine, turn the edges under and sew them down, or any other thing you can come up with! It would make a marvelous summer-weight blanket or baby crib throw: not too hot, not too cold but just right! FYI: our new kits are on their way, so be on the lookout for them.

Since we’ve been talking about Mother’s Day, and babies, and quick-to-make 3 yard quilts, let’s make our special fabric of the week fit in here!!! All children’s fabrics, PLUS all minkee, luxe and flannel fabrics (think backing here, not winter style flannels!) at 20% off when you give us the code. The code will be 20SOFTEES, calling to mind both the children’s fabrics and the minkees, luxe and flannels as Softees! This will include the Tula Pink bolts of wideback minkee also, available at our online store (www.sunvalleyquilts.com) and in-shop!

Have a wonderful week, stop by and say hi, enjoy the outdoors while we still can, and sew to your heart’s content! Of course, thank you for shopping with us and spread the word to those you know who might be worried about machine maintenance now that Joann’s is out of business, that we are close by and able to happily take over that maintenance issue! We are getting machines back to you in 7 to 10 business days when there are no major issues. Major issues we can definitely handle for you, but if parts have to be ordered, time will be extended but still very quick! We want your machines in your hands, not in our hands!!! And if those friends didn’t know it already, we do have an ample supply of supplies and fabrics! See you soon!
