Short but active session adjourns after lawmakers pass bills on cannabis and sports betting


While the 2023 legislative session may have opened to tempered expectations in January, it gaveled to a close this week with a stack of major bills in the books, including two breakout measures on medicinal cannabis and sports wagering that both passed in the final hours.


Lawmakers returned to Frankfort on Wednesday for the last two days of the short, 30-day session and, in a marathon of proceedings, overrode more than a dozen vetoes from the governor.

Sales pro Webb still selling Bowling Green


Sales – whether it’s greeting cards, used cars or school supplies – has been Johnny Webb’s stock-in-trade for more than half a century.


It still is, only now the product the retired businessman is selling is his adopted hometown of Bowling Green.


You can see the evidence near the Carter Sims Road bridge spanning Interstate 65, where a colorful, flag-bedecked “southern gateway” stands as the centerpiece of the Operation PRIDE organization’s “BeautifI-65” project.

Plans approved for Bowling Green Ind. School District Local Area Vocational Education Center


The Bowling Green Independent School District Board of Education has approved plans for the district’s new Local Area Vocational Education Center (LAVEC) to be built on the campus of Bowling Green High School over the next several months.


Bowling Green Independent Schools received $8.3 million for the new center as part of the Better Kentucky Plan, funded by the 2022 General Assembly.

Reshoring to U.S. and foreign direct investment up record 53% in 2022


Reshoring and FDI job announcements in 2022 were at the highest rate ever recorded, with electric vehicle battery makers the top category, according to the Reshoring Initiative’s 2022 Data Report. Fourth quarter announcements accelerated even more than anticipated due to the Chips and Infrastructure Acts and deglobalization trends.


The Reshoring Initiative report contains data on U.S. reshoring and FDI by companies that have shifted production or sourcing from offshore to the United States.
