In mid-1986, Porsche unveiled the 928 S4 to replace the 928 S. The 928 already had a sterling reputation as a luxurious, long distance GT, however the S4 offered improvements over the S. The most significant enhancement was the new 5 liter dual overhead cam 32 valve V8 engine that produced 316 horsepower and 317 ft. lbs. of torque. Performance for the time period was excellent, and the new S4 would accelerate from 0 – 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and had a top speed of 168 mph.
The 928 offered here is a fine example of a first year S4. It is eye catching in its black exterior and matching black leather interior. The interior is excellent and there are no cracks in the instrument panel. There are some chips visible on the black exterior. Like all 928s, this one is very well equipped and includes a 4 speed automatic transmission, cruise control, 8 way power seats and a sunroof as well as a full factory tool kit and spare tire with pump. The car is stock with the exception of three additions: a keyless entry system, a modern Kenwood Excelon kdx-704 audio system with Bluetooth plus hands free calling, and extra sound deadening material has been added,
This 928 is a low mileage example with only 61,614 miles showing on the odometer. Recent service performed includes new front brake rotors and pads, brake bleeding, front wheel alignment, Mobil 1 oil and filter, sunroof adjustment, A/C charged, a new ignition switch, plus all 45 fuses were removed, cleaned and checked for correct amperage values. Last summer it was driven from Detroit to Virginia and back with no issues. The vehicle was reported stolen in September, 2006 but was recovered shortly afterwards. The original VIN tags were removed, however a replacement VIN tag with the correct number supplied by the State of Washington has been installed. The car functions and looks as it should. The Carfax document states no accidents or damage reported. The vehicle is priced below market thereby acknowledging its history.
