Presented here is a fine example of the R107 1988 Mercedes Benz 560 SL roadster. Finished in diamond blue with a beige leather interior and contrasting blue piping with chrome Mercedes wheels, this classic Mercedes is a head turner. This car is powered by a 5.5 liter V8 engine and an automatic transmission which will propel the vehicle to 130 mph. The car is equipped with a brand new convertible soft top, a metal body color bolt on hardtop, and a removable windscreen.
The vehicle was purchased by the current owner in September, 2010 from a private individual from Grand Junction, CO. At that time, the car had travelled 71,000 miles. Since then the car has been driven only sparingly and the odometer currently reads 81,229 miles. Additionally, the car has been properly maintained, with service records back to 2010. In addition to normal maintenance lots of repairs and improvements were performed:
- New front and rear brake pads, calipers, lines, fluids and rotors, power vacuum booster
- Replaced all drive belts and all motor rubber so no vacuum leaks.
- New left and right tie rod assembly, center tie rod drag link, steering damper, idler arm, bushings, steering shaft coupler, flex joint steering gear
- New gas line
- Recharged air conditioner, new blower motor
- Replaced oxygen sensor system
- All new furl injectors
- Rebuilt transmission
- New camshafts, timing chains, guides and sensors
- Replaced air flow meter, seals and gaskets between upper and lower intake manifolds
- New Michelin tires, new chrome Mercedes wheels
The body and the interior are in very good condition for the age of the car. As would be expected of a car of this vintage, there are several paint chips in the original paint and two small areas of clearcoat delamination (see gallery photo). The interior shows minimal wear for the age of the car. The vehicle is stock other than an upgraded Pioneer radio/CD player. When not being driven, the car is always garaged with a Battery Tender.
You know the deal with classic cars. You either buy one cheap and plan on doing a fortune in repairs or you buy one that someone else has put the love and money into. That way all you have to do is enjoy the drive.
