1989 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa
3.2L 217 HP Air Cooled SOHC & FI Flat 6
G50 5 Speed Manual Transaxle
The 3.2-liter Porsche 911 G Series Carrera debuted for 1984, hot on the heels of a very successful run of 911SC models built from 1978 to 1983. The new Carrera shared most of its visual cues with its immediate predecessor, but benefitted from added power and performance (0-60 in 5.5 sec., top speed 152 mph), the highly regarded Getrag G50 transmission, and other evolutionary updates.
With a Slate Gray Metallic exterior and Linen leather interior, this later G model Carrera Targa has the large whale tail and other factory options, including 16 in. Fuchs wheels, cruise control, shorter throw shifter, F & R spoilers, sports shock absorbers and alarm. It also has power seats, windows and door locks.
The front seats and door panels have been reupholstered, with seat heaters added. New carpeting (with added Duramat insulation) is protected by period correct coco floor mats. The windshield was replaced due to stone damage, and the exterior has been resprayed (cosmetic only, no damage to car) to correct stone chips and scratches only. The Targa bar has been refinished in its original satin black and the removable Targa top has been refurbished, looking like new.
A Targa sunshade/temporary top is also included. The brake calipers were rebuilt and refinished by PMB, and the ignition distributor has been restored. All of the A/C system’s major components (compressor, condenser, dryer, lines) have been replaced with Kuehl Products parts, and the system now provides cold 370F air. The original Fuchs wheels have been polished and are shod with lower profile Bridgestone Potenza RE11 tires (205/55 R16 F, 245/45 R16 R).
The current owner has added several (reversible, with most original parts included) modifications: a modern Continental audio head unit (AM/FM/LW/CD/MP3/Bluetooth/USB), amplifier, enhanced speakers, subwoofer and amplified antenna; a new VDO gage set with an added/integrated voltmeter; a compass mirror; a Nardi wood steering wheel is mounted to a tilt wheel hub for easier entry & exit; driver side seat track extenders to better accommodate taller drivers; a new electrical panel with modern fuses, and a Viper alarm system. Stiffening struts have been added in the front trunk and B-pillars to improve torsional rigidity.
A VEMS Engine management system (plug & play ECU upgrade) allows laptop computer fine tuning of ignition, fuel, etc.
Currently owned since 2010 , this Targa has been very well maintained and cared for, driven regularly and always garaged. Oil and filter have been changed every 3,000 miles, and there are no leaks. Everything works as it should (even the clock!). It runs perfectly and strongly, and drives like a much younger car (confirming the saying, “Condition trumps mileage”).
The car has a clean Carfax report, with no accidents, damage or issues reported. The original spare, jack, and tools are included, as are records & receipts from 2010 to present (with a few others back to 1990), two keys & fobs, a windshield sun shade, a CTEK® battery tender, and a variety of spares (including DME and other relays).
