1999 MERCEDES BENZ CL 500

VIN:WDBGA70G8XA407388

34,794 MILES

Mercedes considers this splendid coupe to be its new flagship -- its unequivocal statement of leadership, innovation, capability, and sheer automotive attitude. Yes, it's slightly smaller than the S-class sedan on which it's loosely based, and at $89,650 (including luxury tax), the CL500 is less expensive than the only V-12 offering for 2000, the SL600 roadster. But the big sedans are, well, so common, and next year's CL600 will once again trump all other Benz sticker prices.

If the CL were simply a two-door S-class, no one would name it the new leader of the pack. The CL, however, has its own distinctive architecture, interior styling, and technology. It's easily the most sophisticated car, technically, on American roads right now.”

- Car and Driver magazine February, 2000.

Attention Mercedes aficionados: here is an opportunity to purchase a rare 1999 CL 500 in outstanding condition. It is one of an estimated 440 imported to the U.S. in 1999. Rarer still is the paint color - Aspen Green. This is a two owner car that has been driven only 34,794 miles since new. The second owner bought the car in 2003 and owned it until late 2013, at which time he passed away. He kept the car pristine, never drove it in the rain, and stored itduring the winter. The exterior, the full leather tan interior and mechanicals are like brand new. The vehicle has a clean Carfax with no accidents or damage reported. Service records since 2003 are included. The power radio antenna is broken but the sound system plays perfectly.

The car is powered by a five liter, twenty four valve V8 engine which produces 302 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 347 ft-lb of torque, connected to a five speed automatic transmission and rear wheel drive. It will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. This cruiser rides and handles very smoothly with no squeaks or rattles. Part of its smooth riding characteristics can be attributed to Active Body Control (ABC) that controls all four corners for bounce and rebound to keep the body level during cornering. The body is composed of a mixture of interesting materials. In addition the its steel pieces, this Mercedes is built with engineering plastics front fenders, an aluminum hood and rear fenders, and a magnesium roof. The non-steel components listed above reduce the car’s weight by 600 pounds.

The car as shown is equipped with 20” chrome AMG wheels. The original Mercedes wheels are included in the sale. The tires are Bridgestone Turanza, which have been driven approximately 3,000 miles. Additionally, two car covers come with the car; one indoor and one outdoor. Other add-ons include an upgraded leather and wood Mercedes steering wheel, front “bra”, upgraded floor and trunk mats, and a DVD player.
