Offered here is a fine example of a Factory Five Racing Shelby 427 style Cobra roadster. It is a Mark 1 version built by Factory Five Racing in 2002 and is in excellent condition. The fiberglass body is finished in white with dual black racing stripes accented by beautiful period correct 17” Halibrand style knockoff wheels. Side exhaust pipes, chrome bumperettes, hood pins for the removable hood, a hoop roll bar, wind wings and external Le Mans style gasoline filler cap add to its appearance and authenticity. The interior is black, with full instrumentation, fire extinguisher and Simpson five point seatbelt harnesses. The car does not have a top or side curtains, but does come with a tonneau cover to cover the cockpit. Coupled with its aggressive exhaust sound, it is a real head turner.
This Cobra roadster is powered by a modified Ford 302 cu. in. four barrel carbureted V8 engine producing an estimated 400 horsepower. It is connected to a Tremec T5 five speed manual transmission. Acceleration is brutal. Stopping power is provided by manual 4 wheel disc brakes.
Other significant mechanical features include a four inch tubular frame designed and built by Factory Five, front control arms from a 1983-1993 Mustang, Koni rear coilovers, a Ford 8.8 inch rear end, 3.73 final gear ratio and BMR rear upper and lower control arms. Tire tread depth is excellent, but the tires are ten years old.
The present owner purchased the car from an Ohio car collector in September, 2023. The odometer currently reads 6,185 miles. The instrument panel gauges are Autometer; all work with the exception of the gas gauge which is pegged on full. The radio does not play, however a new, uninstalled radio head and two speakers are included in the sale. It is equipped with a three spoke wooden steering wheel with the Cobra insignia in the center hub; steering is manual. A Carroll Shelby signature appears on the instrument panel.
