Offered here is an outstanding replica of the six original Shelby Cobra Daytona coupes built in 1965 by Carroll Shelby and his shop team in Los Angeles to compete against the Ferrari GTO in World Championship racing events.
Delivered in 2015 by Factory Five Racing as a kit, this vehicle, officially designated as a Type 65 Coupe, was completed in 2017 by Drive One Tech Center in Detroit. It was designed and engineered to set a speed record at the Ohio Mile. This car won the first place Production Road Racer trophy at the 2017 and 2018 Detroit Autoramas. Additionally, it was the first place winner in the Production Road Racer category at the 2018 IX Piston Power Cleveland Autorama.
The engine is a 302 Ford Mustang V8 that has been extensively modified by Angelucci Performance in Macomb, MI. The motor has a 10:1 compression ratio. It is equipped with a Ford C4 automatic transmission which has been modified by Angelucci for the Ohio Mile, with a 3.73 Ford spool rear end and four wheel Wilwood disc brakes and power steering.
The fiberglass body is supplied by Factory Five. The interior is aluminum and includes driver and passenger bucket seats, a 6 point roll cage and 5 point harnesses. The windshield and rear hatch are glass and the side windows are plastic. The total investment including the Factory Five kit plus added components for the build excluding labor exceeds $75,000.
The vehicle comes with an assembly manual, a chassis wiring harness manual and various brochures. The car has not been titled and will be sold on a bill of sale. It runs strong but needs some sorting of a few issues in order to title and register it for the road.
The Shelby Cobra will be the honored marque at the 2022 American Speed Festival at M1 Concourse in Pontiac, MI, September 29-October 2, 2022. Cobra Daytona designer Peter Brock will be present. This car would be an excellent addition for vehicle display at this event.
