NYMedTalks Explores Crossroads of Health Care and Technology

More than 300 attendees participated in this year's NYMedTalks held on March 31. Since 1986, NYMC medical students have convened an interdisciplinary, interprofessional conference to expose students to topics outside of the traditional academic curriculum. Originally known as Student-Physician Awareness Day (SPAD), the vernal tradition continues today in the form of NYMedTalks to increase exposure to research, innovation, and developments that will impact the approach to healthcare today and in the future. The event was planned and executed by members of the Class of 2020 Student Senate, from left: Kenneth Guber, Abhiniti Mittal, Kendall Presti, Robert Kane and Jennifer Lindelof. Jeffrey Aston, School of Medicine Class of 2017, Completes Prestigious AOA Fellowship

When Jeffrey Aston, School of Medicine Class of 2017, departs for his six-year residency in integrated plastic surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona not long after this week's Commencement Ceremony, it will be the next leg of a journey that has taken him far and wide, but has never strayed from a very clear end goal: to become a plastic surgeon.

Along the way, Aston has been treated to plenty of hard work, insights and experiences he will forever treasure and well-deserved recognition. In 2016, he was awarded a prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Carolyn L. Kuckein Student Research Fellowship for research he performed at Johns Hopkins University investigating a novel approach to tissue expander breast reconstruction using acellular dermal matrix. The award is named for Carolyn L. Kuckein, a long-time administrator of AOA and an honorary member who died in 2004. Read more about AOA fellowship
