Bits and Pieces

February 18, 2025

We just completed our expansive and extensive Mastery Class for our customers who purchased their B 990 with us! The classroom was full of those big, beautiful machines, ladies who were eager and hungry to take in all of the information and tips which we could provide, also hungry for the snacks and lunches which we provided during the days, the Q and A’s which students came in with, the camaraderie which they enjoyed with their peers, and more. They were full days indeed, but very good days. We are fortunate to have two trained instructors, both trained directly by BERNINA, to teach the classes and send the confident and happy students back home to sew up a storm with some of the things they learned: sewing, quilting, and embroidery. The students came prepared, having had time to play on the new machine and to go through the B 990 manual before coming to class, so they were able to absorb much more information. We always want you to play on your new machine before coming in for our Mastery Classes so you have a solid idea of what questions to ask and you don’t feel like a deer in the headlights with no place to go. We will be continuing our continuing education on these machines, and our instructors also have their own B 990 so they are very learned on the machines, and they will be learning more all the time. We offer these extensive classes to our customers only, so be aware that when you purchase a machine from SVQ, you are purchasing into our pools of knowledge, education, and ability to help you with your issues. You become a part of the “SVQ Family” and that is how it should be, don’t you think?

Speaking of a sewing family factor, we will be present at the Grace Co. booths during Quilt Con this Thursday through Sunday. The show is put on by the national quilting organization, the Modern Quilt Guild, so as the name tells you, focus will be on modern quilting theories and ideas. The show will be at the Phoenix Convention Center, and because it is a National show, expect to see and meet many quilters from around the world. There will be some vendors for you, but we will not be attending as vendors, but rather as the Arizona representative for Grace and Co. longarms. We proudly carry their frames and machines at SVQ, and our best educator, Lynn V., will be at the Grace booth to handle Show and Tell for you, along with the Grace Team from Salt Lake City! And of course, Lynn will be there to write up sales for you, too! Remember that we are the home of the Q’nique longarm machines, Grace Frames, QCT Software, the Little Rebel machine (which can be a domestic machine setting on a sewing table and/or a longarm machine setting on a quilting frame!!!), the Cutie Breeze frame which can mater a king sized quilt yet sits atop a tabletop, desktop, or what-have-you. Prices are shockingly low to those thinking that all longarms begin in the $35,000 range and up…..they do NOT!!! So check them out at Quilt Con or with us at the shop in Sun City.

Looking forward to the next week, we have our sometimes noisy-with-laughter, busy-with-knowledge Sew Sisters classes Tuesday and Wednesday, 2-25 and 26. If you haven’t finished your oh-so-easy bargello looking quilt top, now is the time. Check out the class online to see if there will be a special designated project for the class. I have my bargello fabrics, and now I need the time to cut the fabric. The sewing goes quickly and looks oh-so-good! I can’t wait to both start and finish!

Brief Preview of March: March 1 and 2, join Andi’s Jumpstart class. New Quilter? Wanna Be Quilter? Wanna Be A Better Quilter? This class is designed for you. You will make a small quilt in the two days, something that can be your reference quilt and one to be proud of. Check out the class, and sign up for it, on our website at www.sunvalleyquilts.com. We’re offering a two day Bag Class March 12 and 13. The featured bag will be the Zip It Up 2.0 pattern, byAnnie. We have the pattern, notions, zippers, and fabrics for you. Learn to set in zippers the EASY way, with Lynn M. at the helm. Barb Johnson is back, teaching you how to use and sew with Cork…and we have lots of cork available for you, or bring what you have from home. It makes bags, journals, placemats and more look very chic and modern. Barb makes a lot of things using her cork, so come and become inspired!  March 16, Andi is with us with her Longarm Techniques Class, a monthly class. And a new class for you teaching the techniques and tips for Binding, on March 18 from 9:30-12:30.

Our special for the week will be Southwest fabrics, at 20% off when you give us the code: SOUTHWEST20. Online or in-shop. Inspiration from the sweatshirt I’m wearing, which reads: “Sorta Sweet, Sorta Beth Dutton”. If you weren’t a Yellowstone fan, this might not make sense, but if you think about it, you can put your own meaning into it, and you’d probably be more right than wrong!!! Hope to see you in the shop and at Quilt Con. Be safe!
