WEYERHAEUSER IS INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH.
The number-one challenge for industries across the board continues to be a strong workforce. With remote, in-office or hybrid work set-ups, combined with trends such as the great resignation and quiet quitting, that challenge has exponentially increased. At Weyerhaeuser Industrial Communities, we strategically align with workforce partners, educational institutions and economic development organizations to provide strategic resources to secure, maintain and strengthen an area's workforce. We are working for more, for you.

STRENGTH #1 - ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS
|
|
The data and strategies surrounding the workforce can be overwhelming, yet finding a pathway forward doesn’t have to be. We partner with VisionFirst Advisors (VFA) to conduct detailed workforce and market intelligence assessments for our prospective clients and site selectors. By utilizing this information, we focus on understanding a company’s needs and a region’s workforce capabilities. When approaching workforce intelligence, analysis can be broken down into three questions:
-
Does the region have the workforce it needs today for an expanding or new industry? Workforce is a key component in the attraction, retention and expansion of industry. Emphasis should be placed on reviewing current, historic and forecasted economic snapshots, including demographics; labor force and participation rates; educational attainment; industry sectors and clusters; and “what-if-analysis” for target industries.
-
Is the region’s workforce skilled or able to be upskilled/retrained? Assessing the skills and reliability of the workforce is imperative for industry success. We analyze occupational characteristics such as turnover rates, educational attainment, underemployment and military exits. This information is compared to education and training gaps, along with current company requirements.
-
Can the region ensure a steady pipeline for years to come? Industry often offers long-term investments and commitments to a community. Having a strong pipeline of workers enables that longevity. A review of educational attainment and other demographics indicates how the region will continue to replace retired workers, as well as manage new industry expansions.
Throughout the next year, VFA's Managing Directors Greg Word and Nancy Blum-Heintz will go beyond the data to tackle each of these questions in greater detail for our newsletter. Stay tuned for amazing insights, beginning Spring 2023!
