WE ARE IN THE NEWS! If you don't live in Westport, you may have missed this wonderful blog article announcing our new name. Thank you Dan Woog for taking the time to write such a fabulous piece that captures who we are and why we come together each week, and why we changed our name.
This is a perfect piece to forward along to friends - with an invitation to join us this Sunday for BRING A FRIEND Sunday - or ANY Sunday, for that matter!
(And if you are so inclined, comment on the article in the blog itself; this produces more traffic and engagement which means more people will read it....or, post it to your Facebook account ....! or both!)

THIS SUNDAY IS "BRING A FRIEND/BE A FRIEND" SUNDAY
"Come, come, whoever you are!"
|
|
Reminder that this Sunday our service will be multi-gen, with all kinds of interesting things for newcomers to enjoy: Nate's Story for All, a laughing meditation, a rousing sermon on LOVE, teen choir, and the TUUCW orchestra back after a two year hiatus. And then afterwards - SOUP to support the high schoolers, and PIZZA, camaraderie and connection at the Meeting House for all - kids, adults, newcomers, old-timers. Please invite your friends and neighbors, and plan on a full morning and a full stomach, too!
|
|
Are you new to our congregation? Just starting to feel comfortable and want to know more? Been coming a while but still want to make more connections? Then come join us after the service and after stocking up on soup ... RSVP if possible but drop-ins are always welcome. Jim Cooper – [email protected]

FINANCE 101 (5): OUR CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
|
|
Capital Campaigns are usually long-term fundraising programs used to raise large amounts of money that address significant investments in capital improvements: often, but not always, buildings and costly infrastructure projects. They operate outside of our regular, annual, fundraising efforts - pledging, holiday appeals, special outreaches - which are generally designed to cover annual operating expenses.
This campaign pledged $2.1 million; we had a 91% fulfill rate, with some lingering payments still coming in (thank you!). We are grateful to the 236 people who contributed to this important effort. Hard to believe we were able to do this, even in the midst of COVID! Hats off to our committee who led us so ably: Kristen Leddy and Carol Seiple, Co-Chairs, Catherine Onyemelukwe, Mary Jane Cross, Anita Pfluger, and Rev. John. And a special shout-out to John Turmelle who has overseen all the work, as our incredibly able and dedicated Facilities Manager.
|
|
To date, Capital Campaign funds have enabled us to:
- install a new drainage system on the east lawn,
- upgrade the parking lot,
- build a new sidewalk in front of the church,
- replace the leaking skylight in the sanctuary,
- install new windows in the chancel area, and
- replace the flooring in the foyer, offices, and meeting rooms.
With remaining funds of roughly $500K, we anticipate making the chancel ADA compliant and replacing the sanctuary floor. It may also be possible to replace some of the glass walls in the remainder of the sanctuary.
There are plenty of other exciting capital improvements to pursue, but they would require additional funds to complete. Folks interested in supporting targeted capital improvements with a major donation - Air Conditioning anyone? - should feel free to speak to Rev. John.
