What a happy and hopeful day last Sunday! You were so kind to me, not to mention superb with your pentatonic scale singing! I am not worried about you! As for me, I am already starting to feel a little better. I slept well last night for the first time in a long while. I’m trying very hard not to worry about what all needs to get done before Sunday. It will take time to ignore those ongoing daily to-do lists spinning in my head. It seems like the spinning, however, is easing...click HERE for more.

JOIN US IN READING BANNED BOOKS
|
The freedom to read is under assault in America’s schools and libraries! Over 3,300 bans were recorded during the 2022-2023 academic year, a 33% increase over the prior year.
Book bans overwhelmingly target books about race or racism or feature characters of color, and those with LGBTQIA+ characters and themes. Moreover, it is the voices of authors who are female, people of color or LGBTQIA+ individuals that are most often being silenced.
The Black Lives Matter team is building a library of frequently targeted books. In conjunction with Banned Books Week, stop by our table after service this Sunday or next to borrow a book and celebrate learning, freedom and the dignity of all people!

NEW VIDEO MONITORS IN THE SANCTUARY
Do you want a fully integrated experience of remote sermons and video elements in our worship services? The Tech Team led by Rob Laug will put up cardboard mock-ups of 4 monitors in the sanctuary to demonstrate the current plan. Another option is to continue rolling out monitors, but most people can’t see them. A pull down screen/projection system won’t work because of the sanctuary’s brightness and exorbitant cost. Do you have questions, suggestions or feedback? On October 8th, Rob Laug will be available to take specific questions and members can share their specific feedback HERE. Rev. Alan Taylor’s first remote sermon will occur in November.
Rev. Alan Taylor’s photo of the sanctuary with the mock-up for the monitors
didn’t get into his Minister’s Message.
This Sunday, Rob Laug will be available to field questions following the service.

CONGRATULATIONS TO LINDY HENNESSY
OUR LEADING LIGHT FOR OCTOBER
| |
|
We are honored to award this month’s Leading Light to Lindy Hennessy for all she gives to our community and beyond. The endless support Lindy provides to us in so many ways truly exemplify the example of “leading from behind.” Her quiet, steady leadership in so many of our outreach programs, from endless Sundays delivering lunches to John Street Bridge, to the hard work of setting up and guiding others at Voices Cafe concerts, to guiding our hikers in finding enjoyment in the outdoors, to caring for others in her role as a Pastoral Care Chaplain, we count on Lindy’s steady hand in countless ways. Lindy’s gentle leadership forges connections that exemplify TUCW’s mission, inspiring, acting and connecting and we are deeply grateful.

It can be a wonderful gesture to donate flowers for our Sunday services. A traditional hanging basket, or flowers of your own choosing that you bring to us, are both great options. Take them home with you after the service. Please reach out to Ruth Fontilla to get the process going. We look forward to celebrating with you!
| |
Please wear your nametag on Sunday mornings. If you've lost yours, let an usher know, and we'll get a new one made up for you. Or you can contact Ruth in the office.
