OUR PLEDGE DRIVE CONTINUES: MAKE YOUR PLEDGE HERE
|
|
Pledging is a UU process that we participate in every spring. Here's what one of our long-time members says about it:
"Pledging is not giving. If you want to give to the congregation, please put more in the plate. Pledging is an act of faith, and an act of hope. Giving is about today, pledging is about next year. When you pledge, you tell the church, the rest of us, that you will be here next year and that we can count on you. It’s not a way of saying 'thank you for what you have given me.' It’s a way of saying 'I believe in this place and I will support it come what may.' Pledging is an act of covenant.
"If we all pledge what we can, what makes us feel good, we are contributing to the future health of this community." [emphasis added]
And for another inspiring point of view, here's Dayle Brownstein and her testimonial from last Sunday. Click HERE.

NEW! TASTE OF SOUL SPIRITUAL DISCUSSION GROUP
SUNDAYS IN APRIL 11:15-12:15 IN THE LIBRARY
|
|
Please grab a cup of coffee and a treat and join us in sharing one another's wisdom and experiences focused on this month’s congregational theme "Awakenings." This will give you a taste of the Soul Matters materials we use in our Sharing Circles. An example of a quote that will be discussed: "The magic wasn’t imprisoned in childhood. We’ve all had adult moments when we’ve “come alive", wonderfully lost in our work, our creativity, or a kiss. Time both stopped and was set on fire." Provocative quotes and growth-inspiring resources will be shared throughout this month of Spring. Facilitator- Rev. Laurie Andersen. Location: The TUCW Library off the foyer. Contact: linda@uuwestport.org.

PODCAST DISCUSSION THIS MONDAY APRIL 4, 7:00 PM - ZOOM
LED BY KIM WARMAN, INTERN MINISTER
|
|
John O’Donohue: “The Inner Landscape of Beauty”
Krista Tippett writes “No conversation we’ve ever done has been more beloved than this one. The Irish poet, theologian, and philosopher insisted on beauty as a human calling. He had a very Celtic, lifelong fascination with the inner landscape of our lives and with what he called “the invisible world” that is constantly intertwining what we can know and see. This was one of the last interviews he gave before his unexpected death in 2008. But John O’Donohue’s voice and writings continue to bring ancient mystical wisdom to modern confusions and longings.”
This interview is a favorite of Rev. John’s. It promises to be a rich and deep dialogue for us. Please join us. Listen to the podcast (click HERE) then join us on zoom for the discussion: ZOOM HERE. Questions? Contact Linda Lubin.

CARAVAN OF THIEVES AT VOICES CAFE
NEXT SATURDAY, APRIL 9 AT 8:00 PM
|
|
Well-known for their theatrical, humorous, intense style, Caravan of Thieves is zany, dazzling and defies classification!
If Django Reinhardt, the cast of Stomp and the Beatles all had a party at Tim Burton's house, Caravan of Thieves would be the band they hired.
The creative force behind Caravan, Connecticut’s own Fuzz and Carrie (acoustic guitars/ vocals), along with Westport native Dan Asher (upright bass), and Dan Foster (violin), deliver driving gypsy jazz rhythms, with mesmerizing vocal harmonies and fantastic stories.
Café-style (at tables) and individual seating. Bring snacks and beverages. Groups of 4 or more can reserve table space. For more information and to purchase tickets go to: https://voicescafe.org/. Please view our COVID Protocols on our website.
Enjoy a fun evening out of pure entertainment!!

DRESSERS NEEDED FOR REFUGEES FROM AFGHANISTAN

Do you have a dresser in good condition that you no longer need?
|
|
The Immigration and Refugee Outreach Committee of The Unitarian Church in Westport helps the Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants (CIRI) resettle immigrants and refugees in our area. There is a new push now to set up apartments for multiple large families of refugees from Afghanistan and one critical need is for dressers – especially smaller ones that could be carried upstairs. If you have a dresser that you would like to donate, please contact Dorothy Rich.
We also need drivers and helpers to pick up donated furniture – please contact Stephen Polmar for further information. Thank you!
