GOODNIGHT MOONSHINE: VOICES CAFÉ'S FIRST LIVESTREAM PERFORMANCE, SATURDAY JUNE 19, 8:00 PM
Goodnight Moonshine brings a unique sound to their devoted followers. “Molly Venter’s voice bends from a sweet moan to a gritty shout, and back into a playful run in the space of a few bars” reports Passim.org. “And it all goes down like silk,” writes American Songwriter Magazine. “Few singers turn first time listeners into eternal fanatics as effortlessly as Molly Venter.”

Co-writing often, the couple uses the creative process to explore a healthy, authentic relationship.
Both wholesome and irreverent, they sing of grief and joy in equal measure; Molly gives smooth delivery to Eben’s assertions, while Eben gives form and focus to Molly’s raw passion. Click HERE to purchase tickets for this live-stream only concert. There will be no in-house audience.
VOICES CAFÉ BENEFICIARY TO CELEBRATE JUNETEENTH
The Mary & Eliza Freeman Center for History and Community
Of about 36 structures that comprised Little Liberia in Bridgeport, only the homes of sisters Mary and Eliza Freeman survive on original foundations. Little Liberia was a seafaring community of free people of color. It boasted a luxurious seaside resort hotel for wealthy Blacks, Bridgeport’s first free lending library, a school for colored children, businesses, fraternal organizations, and churches. Mary & Eliza Freeman were accomplished business women; when Mary Freeman died, the only Bridgeporter of greater wealth was P.T. Barnum. The Freeman Houses are listed on the National Register of Historic Places for their significance to African Americans and Women. https://freemancenterbpt.org/

NEXT SUNDAY JUNE 27
UUA: GA Virtual Service
The First Universalist Church of Minneapolis will serve as worship leaders for this year's GA Sunday Morning Service. It has been a model of shared ministry and what it means to put the work of dismantling white supremacy and building anti-racist, anti-oppressive practices at the center of their ministry. They have been on the front lines in support of the Movement for Black Lives in Minneapolis, in the wake of George Floyd’s murder by police and the uprisings for justice that followed. Children and families are a vital part of their ministry; they have been using creative approaches to engage all ages in worship during the pandemic.

We encourage all to gather and participate, on uua.org or on the UUA’s YouTube channel.

VENMO IS NOW AN EASY OPTION FOR OFFERING & MORE
Friends, good news! Now there's an even EASIER way to make your offering online off your phone: use our new church VENMO account! Our account is @TUCW-1. Rest assured, the privacy setting is such that only you and our accountants see entries.

Make sure you put in the memo line what it's for: "6/20 offering" as an example, so Sue knows how to record the gift.

And, BTW: vop.tucw.org still works - as do checks, or cold hard cash!

(Need to know the 4 digits of our cell number so your cell talks to ours? Contact Beth and she'll give it to you. For some of you, it's a one-time security setting.)
OUR LAY-LED SUMMER SCHEDULE IS HERE

NAME CHANGE DISCUSSION AFTER SERVICE, 11:30AM
The Unitarian Church in Westport sign
Previously the Board of Trustees announced its intention to encourage our community to consider changing our name to be more accurate (Unitarian Universalist) and more inclusive ('church' can be a limiting descriptor). At the time it promised opportunities for discussion on this matter.

The Board held one robust open discussion last month, and has announced three more meetings, for all of us to chime in. These meetings will be:

Sunday, June 20, after the worship service at 11:30 AM. Catherine Onyemelukwe, Wendy Levy, hosts. ZOOM same as worship service; Tuesday, June 29, 6:00 PM. Luke Garvey and Beth Cliff, hosts. ZOOM HERE and Saturday, July 17, 9:00 AM. Catherine Onyemelukwe, host. ZOOM HERE.

Picture of Heather at a piano
We were all delighted to hear the news that Dr. Heather Hamilton will be joining the staff to take the lead for pre-K-7th grade Faith Formation, for both the children and their families. She'll be working alongside our wonderful Lead for Youth Faith Formation, Nate Pawelek, who will be focused on 8th-12th graders.

Please see Rev. John's announcement HERE. Heather will start on July 1. Even before she officially arrives, we we can welcome her via email: [email protected].

We are very fortunate to have her with us and with all our families! Onwards and upwards!
Summer Fun & Games: Our program of crafts and games for children (5th grade and younger) begins on Sunday, July 4 and will continue each Sunday through Labor Day weekend. This is an opportunity for adult volunteers to interact and bond with our church children. If you would like to sign up for a Sunday (or two) of fun with our children, contact Nate.
