Gloucester Sails
A Gloucester 400+
June 23 - 25
The schooner is the fishing vessel that made Gloucester famous. A sail aboard a schooner on historic Gloucester Harbor is the quintessential Gloucester experience.
“Gloucester Sails!” makes this accessible for residents who may have lacked access to schooner sailing due to economic hardship or other accessibility reasons. Our free tickets have been distributed through our partners at Gloucester Housing Authority, Wellspring, and Pathways for Children.
Imagine living in Gloucester for decades and never having a chance to go sailing on one of the schooners. This special commemorative year, that will change, thanks to Schooner Adventure, Gloucester 400+ and Beauport Financial Services. All tickets have been distributed via our partners at Gloucester Housing Authority, Wellspring, and Pathways for Children.

Sunday, June 24 | 10:45 AM
Meet at Oak To Ember Restaurant, 9 Rogers St.
Before St. Peter’s Fiesta reaches its final events on Sunday — with the the Blessing of the Fleet and the final Greasy Pole Walk — the day’s real highlights, the procession of St. Peter travels Gloucester’s streets which includes the carrying of oars named in tribute of vessels lost at sea by the city’s fishing fleet. The oars represent past and present boats in Gloucester’s fleet, as well the families that owned them and the families of the crew that served on them, and Aeillo said there are more than 100. The organizers of oar group are putting out a call for more carriers and the only requirement is that carriers should wear a white shirt or top, if possible. Cape Ann Animal Aid Pet of the Week
Meet Penny, a 5.5-month-old available as one of Cape Ann Animal Aid’s foster-to-adopt dogs. Penny appears to be a terrier mix, will reach a medium size once fully grown. Shyness is Penny’s initial reaction to new people, unfamiliar situations, and loud noises but she warms up and blossoms into a loving, loyal companion. She will thrive in a calm and understanding environment where she can feel safe and secure, a home with adults or older children, and perhaps a confident dog for a role model. Penny likes her furry friends and absolutely loves playing with toys. If you think Penny would make a good addition to your family, please visit www.capeannanimalaid.org for more information about me and all the other animals waiting for homes here at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter, 4 Paws Lane in Gloucester.
