Rockport Music to host a Fall Jazz Weekend
This November at Rockport Music’s Shalin Liu Performance Center opens with a dynamic Fall Jazz Weekend (November 2-5, 2023) that starts with Christian McBride’s New Jawn on November 2 at 8 p.m., with their recently released sophomore album, Prime. An eight-time GRAMMY Award winning bassist, composer and bandleader, Christian McBride stands as one of the most revered jazz artists of our time. Rockport Teacher to Speak at Statehouse on Wednesday
(From Gloucester Daily Times) Rockport High School history teacher Dan Gagnon is scheduled to speak about his first book at the Statehouse on Wednesday as part of the State Library’s Author Talk Series.
Gagnon, of Danvers, will discuss his book “A Salem Witch: The Trial, Execution, and Exoneration of Rebecca Nurse,” published in 2021, from noon to 1 p.m. at the State Library in Room 341. The event will also be live-streamed on YouTube. Read Full Article

Another Cape Air Plein Air is in the books. Click here to view and purchase the beautiful paintings created by the talented artists during the festival this year. Our artists capture the essence of this historic and scenic region with their brushes and canvases.
(From Manchester Cricket) Stephen Griffin took first place with his painting, “Schooners in the Harbor.” In second place was “The Tide Will Turn,” a painting of the marshes behind Black Beach in Manchester by Pennsylvania artist Beth Bathe. Third place was “Dancing on Bass Rocks,” by Illinois painter Lon Brauer. Winning paintings celebrated many areas of Rockport, Gloucester, Essex, and Manchester and focused on traditional land and seascape scenes of plein air painting as well as non-traditional ones, such as indoor scenes, restaurant life, people at work and play. Styles in paintings also ranged from realism to highly abstract or gestural techniques in both watercolor and oil. Read Full Article

Annisquam Village Players (AVP) Awards $1,000 Each to Two Students
AVP is pleased to announce the selection of Rockport students Morgan Reilly and Isabella Scherbarth as the winners of the 2023 AVP Theatrical Arts Scholarship. As part of the AVP’s mission to support and encourage young performers,To support and encourage our young performers, the AVP awards a scholarship each year to students who have demonstrated a commitment to developing their artistic talent in acting, voice, dance or in theater production, and have participated in AVP productions in the past. The scholarship funds can be applied to any artistic development, such as classes or private instruction in theater arts, or tuition to a school or camp program offering such instruction. Read More

Musicians Wanted for Halftime Show
(From Gloucester Daily Times) In honor of Gloucester’s 400+ anniversary, residents are invited to join in a special musical performance on the evening of Friday, Oct. 27, at halftime during the Gloucester High School football team’s final home game of the season.
City Councilor Jeff Worthley has organized a fun performance of the Gloucester High School and O’Maley Middle School bands and their guests. The bands have been practicing and will be ready to welcome 50 additional local musicians who can capably play the four chosen songs to join them. The expectation is that local musicians will commit to joining the students, download the respective musical parts, practice on their own and join in a brief pre-game rehearsal on the Newell Stadium bleachers at 6 p.m. Learn More

Association of Great Neck's Turkey Tune-Up 5K Run/Walk Open for Registration
On the first Saturday in November, AGN sponsors the annual Turkey Tune-Up 5K Run/Walk. The event, which starts at Pirate Park on Little Neck Road, Ipswich, is the primary fundraiser for the AGN Scholarship Fund. The scenic route goes clockwise around Great Neck beginning at Great Neck Park (Pirate Park-128 Little Neck Road), follows Little Neck Road to a right on North Ridge Rd, a right on Clark Road continuing on Bayview Rd and back to the park.
