Weekday Volunteers needed at Gloucester Chamber Office


Do you or someone you know have a few spare hours to fill by giving back to the Greater Cape Ann community? If so, the Chamber is seeking volunteers to help out on weekdays during the winter months. The Cape Ann Innovators Collaborative came back strong with their first event since the pandemic hit. Consisting of a series of five 5-minute lightning talks, the speakers hit on a variety of engaging topics, followed by 10 minute break-out sessions to discuss the topics in greater detail. The 5 presenters were Isabel Pett (Gloucester 400+), David Fields (City of Gloucester), Karen Ristuben (ECCF), Maureen Aylward (TownGreen, Inc) and David Minogue (Spade Graphic Design).

Congratulations to Melissa Miller and Krystina Sawyer, this year's recipients of the Carolyn M. O'Connor Scholarship awards. Each received $3,000 to put towards furthering their education.

Department of Industrial Accidents (DIA) awards up to $25,000 to various organizations to fund workplace safety training. Eligible employers within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts covered by the Massachusetts Workers’ Compensation Law (MGL CH. 152) may qualify for funding.

Gloucester's So Salty

 

The Cape Ann Museum is looking for partners for the 2nd Annual Gloucester's So Salty, a two-day festival of ice sculpture and salty culture! Join the celebration of the fish city’s recognizably salty character with local cultural institutions and businesses on Saturday, January 21 and Sunday, January 22, 2023 from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. 


The Cape Ann Museum is commissioning 4 sculptures around Pleasant Street and Warren Street, but are hoping other local businesses and organizations will join them in sponsoring and commissioning ice sculptures. Learn more here.

Gloucester Community Belonging Survey

 

The Gloucester Racial Justice Team is a diverse group of residents dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming city where people of all races, ethnicities, and cultures are free to thrive in an inclusive, equitable community. 

 

After reflecting on their 2021 survey, they created the Gloucester Community Belonging Survey to learn more about your experience as a member of this community. Your anonymous feedback will help them measure progress and envision new initiatives to fulfill their mission.

Wellspring Receives Nearly $10,000 Cash Donation from 100 Women Who Care Cape Ann

 

Wellspring was incredibly grateful to accept a cash gift of nearly $10,000 from 100 Women Who Care Cape Ann to support Wellspring's Homelessness Prevention Fund. The Wellspring Homelessness Prevention Fund is designed to help families stay on track and remain housed through one-time cash grants to help them manage unforeseen expenses, transportation issues, car repairs, or even small rent arrearages. With this donation, Wellspring will be able to assist even more local families who are working hard to avoid potential housing crises and remain in their homes. 100 Women Who Care Cape Ann also organized an amazing winter gear drive of hats, coats and other warm and fuzzy goodies which were happily shared with Action, Inc.! 

Volunteers Needed: Salvation Army Bell Ringers at Market Basket

 

The Salvation Army Bell Ringers have raised well over $100,000 over the past several years. Two hour shifts are available now through Christmas Eve. Open Door Seeking Donations for Holiday Basket Program

 

The Open Door is seeking donations for its annual Holiday Basket program. A gift of $35 helps feed local people through the holidays and beyond. A Holiday Basket provides families with all the fixings to make a holiday meal at home and make new memories. To donate, visit FOODPANTRY.org/donate. 1623 Studios is Looking to Expand Its Board


1623 Studios, which provides community public access cable TV programming to Gloucester, Rockport, Manchester and Essex, is looking to expand its board. Prospective members need to have demonstrated successful experience working collaboratively in groups and independently; communication and creative thinking skills; and interests in visual media and the Cape Ann community.
