The second and third workshop/webinars will address adaptation options and project planning for the Good Harbor Beach area. The Good Harbor Beach ecosystem workshop/webinar series is a pilot public education program that TownGreen will replicate to focus on climate impacts in Essex, Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Rockport. 

Gorton’s makes $250,000 Gift To Sawyer Free 2025 Campaign

Gloucester’s most iconic brand has made a charitable donation of $250,000 to Sawyer Free 2025 (visit, the philanthropic capital campaign to fund a comprehensive renovation, modernization and expansion of Gloucester’s public library building. The donation is earmarked to cover the cost of a new Library History Center inside the library’s existing footprint. 

“Gorton’s is proud to support the renovation and modernization of the Sawyer Free Library and its mission,” said Gorton’s CEO Kurt Hogan. “The library is a place of learning, creativity and innovation that nurtures and develops the community. We hope many generations will enjoy the new library for years to come.”

Trustees Receives a Nearly $500,000 National Park Service Grant for Repairs to Castle Hill

The Trustees of Reservations (The Trustees), the nation’s first and state’s largest land conservation nonprofit, has received a grant of just less than $500,000 from the National Park Service (NPS) and partner agencies to help fund repairs to The Great House at Castle Hill.

The NPS, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute for Museum and Library Services, awarded more than $24 million to fund 80 projects in 32 states and the District of Columbia. The $500,000 in Save America’s Treasures grant money will be used locally at Castle Hill for critical masonry repairs to stop the damaging impacts of water infiltration that threaten the integrity of this national historic landmark.

Mayor Greg Verga Announces the Covid Local Fiscal Recovery Funds Appropriation Plan and Upcoming Infrastructure Projects

Mayor Greg Verga announced the first major investment of the Covid Local Fiscal Recovery Funds and the general plan for this funding. Under the American Rescue Plan Act's (ARPA) local funding provisions, the City of Gloucester was allocated $23 million. Mayor Verga launched the Covid Local Fiscal Recovery Funds Listening Group to solicit public input on the funding opportunity and report their findings back to the administration.

Thursday, November 10 will be the annual Rotary Foundation event, renamed this year as “ROBERT C. WOOD MEMORIAL HEROES CELEBRATION” in honor and memory of the late Past District Governor Bob Wood (2018-19).  There will be a program book for the event that will contain the photo and bio for each hero as well as ads from event sponsors and local businesses to help reduce the cost of the event and to support their foundation fund-raising efforts. Grants Available from Massachusetts Cultural Council

Mass Cultural Council’s Cultural Sector Recovery Grants for Individuals offers unrestricted grants to creatives and gig workers to support recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and set a path for growth. Application deadline is November 1, 2022. Learn more during a live information session on October 6, or view a virtual info session to learn more.

Every Local Cultural Council (LCC) sets its own local priorities and criteria for its LCC Program grants. Learn about each greater Cape Ann LCC by selecting from the following list::

Department of Industrial Accidents (DIA) awards up to $25,000 to various organizations to fund workplace safety training. Eligible employers within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts covered by the Massachusetts Workers’ Compensation Law (MGL CH. 152) may qualify for funding.
