The net proceeds of this event fund the Chamber’s extensive work with the three Cape Ann schools and Essex Tech and education non-profits. The programming includes: monthly collaboration with all schools and education non-profits, DECA support, intern and mentorships, annual Cape Ann Career & College Fair and several scholarships.

Cape Ann Transportation Authority Has Launched Their New CATA On-Demand Service

CATA On Demand is an on-demand public transit
pilot project that will substantially expand low-cost and timely service to employees and employers in Gloucester. The pilot project links MBTA Commuter Rail Stations with major employers in Gloucester.

The service uses a customized ride hailing mobile application which allows passengers to request a ride on-demand and then matches passengers heading in the same direction to avoid lengthy detours or inconvenient schedules. The service will initially operate between 7:30 AM and 8 PM Monday through Friday, with a one-way fare of $2.

Gloucester Biotechnology Academy is Now Accepting Applications for the Incoming Class of 2022

This unique, hands-on program prepares students for careers as entry-level technicians in the thriving biotechnology and life sciences fields. Young adults with high school diplora (or equivalent), ages 18-26. No science or math experience required.

Free Classes In Advanced Manufacturing at Gloucester High School

Are you or someone you know looking to break into the tech industry? Now is the time to start a rewarding career in advanced manufacturing. Through a partnership between the GE Foundation, North Shore Community College, Gloucester High School and MassHire North Shore Career Center you can earn a National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certificate in CNC milling free of charge.

Seaside Sustainability's Free Marine Shrink Wrap Recycling Program

Boat owners can recycle shrink wrap at City of Gloucester Public Works, 28 Poplar Street, Gloucester, MA 01930. The facility will be open Monday to Thursday from 7:30 AM to 4 PM and from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Fridays. This is a free program open to the general public.

The state’s My Local MA campaign recently launched a new feature on their website where businesses can share their stories of resilience, customer service and innovation. The Chamber encourages all Cape Ann small businesses to submit their own stories about how they have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

"Celebrate Older Americans" With the Council on Aging and Rose Baker Senior Center

May is Older Americans Month and once again the Council on Aging and Rose Baker Senior Center will be celebrating older Americans all month with special events and activities. The main event, honoring seniors, will take place on Wednesday, May 26 with a "Celebrate Older Americans" drive through gift bag distribution in the parking lot of the Senior Center. A Line in the Sand

Working on Cape Ann, Ganim-DeFalco and Heffron have drawn their own lines in the sand through keen observation and commitment. The exhibition presents interpretations of the seaside through Heffron’s paintings and Ganim-DeFalco’s Wearable Art. The exhibition will be on display at the Jane Deering Gallery for the month of April.
 
Manchester Essex Rotary Club Raffle

Help the Manchester Essex Rotary Clun raise money for local food banks like the Open Door in Gloucester, scholarships to area students attending college and technical schools, and projects around the globe by buying a $100 ticket. The first prize is $7,500! Second Price $1,500, third $1,000. And only 300 tickets will be sold, so while your odds of winning are good, your odds of helping the community are excellent.

SBA Provides Guidance on Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF)

This new program, included in the American Rescue Plan Act will provide restaurants with funding equal to their pandemic-related revenue loss of up to $10 million per business. Recipients will not be required to repay the funding as long as the money received is used for eligible expenses by no later than March 11, 2023.

EIDL Maximum Loan Amounts Increased

The SBA announced recently that businesses may now apply for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) covering up to 24 months of working capital, up to a total of $500,000. Shuttered Venue Operators Grant
(SVOG) Update

The SBA recently announced that they are “aiming to reopen” the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant application portal “by the end of [this] week.” “We know this funding is urgently needed now and are doing all we can to reopen with the greatest amount of certainty as possible,” the SBA statement continued.
