National Arts in Education Week!
September 8 - 14, 2019
September 8 - 14, 2019
Passed by Congress in 2010,  House Resolution 275  designates the week beginning with the second Sunday in September as  National Arts in Education Week . During this week, the field of arts education joins together in communities across the country to tell the story of the impact of the transformative power of the arts in education.

  1. Celebrate. SPARK! Arts will be hosting an Arts in Ed Celebration on Saturday, September 14 from 9 - 1. Families will be able to stop in at multiple arts stops to participate in mini arts education activities. Students can pick up an "arts passport" at any of the arts stops. Students who participate in 5 or more of the art stops can enter into a raffle to win an amazing gift basket with lots of goodies from local arts organizations! More details below, or check out the event on Facebook!
  2. Advocate. Here in Missoula, SPARK! Arts will make a presentation to City Council on Monday, September 9 along with a proclamation from Mayor John Engen on the importance of Arts in Education. Following the presentation at City Council, SPARK! Arts will speak with the School Board on Tuesday, September 10.
  3. Participate. Share your story in the social media campaign, #BecauseOfArtsEd, to bring national visibility to the issue of arts education. Check in with SPARK! Arts on Facebook to see what some of our Teaching Artists have been able to do #BecauseOfArtsEd!

The 2019 celebration of National Arts in Education Week is dedicated to the memory of Ms. Carol Channing, whose advocacy efforts led to the creation of the national celebration in 2010.  Read the statement here

SPARK! Arts Ignite Learning will recognize and celebrate the transformative power of arts education through activities that honor the efforts of teachers, artists, and arts organizations working to make the arts a crucial part of education in the lives of community members.

SPARK! Arts is celebrating Missoula's collective impact work in arts education through a FREE event with arts demos around downtown Missoula on Saturday, September 14, 9am-1pm. Everyone in the community is encouraged to participate in what has become the country's largest annual collective celebration of the arts in education.

Arts in Ed Celebration passports will be available at each of our 9 arts spots located around downtown. Students can pick up a passport and get a signature at each station for participating. Any student who participates in 5 or more activities can enter a raffle to win an amazing gift basket from 7 local organizations!!
