The Aspen Institute has announced that Dr. Tonjua Williams, SVP Student Services, and Dr. Jesse Coraggio, VP Institutional Effectiveness, have been selected to join its inaugural class of Presidential Fellows.
Selected for their leadership, drive and capacity to "transform community colleges to achieve higher levels of student success," Drs. Williams and Coraggio will join 38 other fellows in an intensive, yearlong, leadership program, delivered in collaboration with Stanford Educational Leadership Initiative. Based in Washington, DC, The Aspen Institute is an educational and policy studies organization focused on fostering leadership based on enduring values.

Students and Donors Celebrate at Annual Luncheon

Donors, students and college leadership celebrated the awarding of over $2 million in scholarships to more than 1,900 students during the 2015-16 academic year at the St. Petersburg College Foundation's 17th Annual Scholarship
Appreciation Luncheon on March 31st.
More than 230 guests attended the event,
sponsored by RBC Wealth Management and Emceed by Bay News 9's Veronica Cintron with SPC student Marissa Allen.
SPC students Brenda Vargas, Timora Works and Courtney Kent moved the audience as they shared their educational journeys with guests. Kent who is obtaining his A.A. in science and education, said, "For the donors who have in the p
ast year alone, shared over a million and a half acts of kindness with St. Petersburg College students, thank you all."
Luncheon guests also enjoyed performances by two students from the SPC Music Department: Daniel Baillie and Alex
Bonyata.

College President Bill Law recognized the contributions of Walter Schafer, M.D. and Vivian Schafer, R.N. to St. Petersburg College at a recent ceremony held at the Health Education Center. St. Petersburg College Foundation Board of Directors Vice Chair Beth Horner and Board Member Steve Cole honored Judge Walter "Skip" Schafer for his service on the Foundation Board. They presented Judge Schafer with plague commemorating his 15 years on the Foundation Board, during which time scholarship awards rose from $370,000 in 2000 to over $2 million in 2015.

Give Day Tampa Bay
SPC Foundation is proud to participate in the third annual Give Day Tampa Bay on May 3, 2016. The event provides Tampa Bay residents an opportunity to help promote students success through scholarship support at SPC.
Give Day Tampa Bay is a 24-hour, online giving event, designed to increase philanthropy in the Tampa Bay area and raise awareness of the amazing work local nonprofits do in this community. This is the third year of the event, which raised $1.75 million for 550 Tampa Bay area nonprofits last year.

SPC Students Named Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholars

SPC students Mahir Abdella and Courtney Kent have been selected as the 2016 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholars. Abdella and Kent were selected based on their scores in the All-USA Community College Academic Team competition, for which more than 1,900 applications were received this year.

Dr. Meg Delgato receives award from Girls Inc. of Pinellas

SPC's Dr. Meg Delgato was honored for her work with Girls Inc. of Pinellas at their annual Fire and Ice Gala on March 4th. Delgato serves as Academic Chair in the College of Education, where she oversees the Office of School Partnerships and the science education program. She also serves as one of the lead faculty for SPC's Civic Learning & Community Engagement Center.
