Respect for Life Mass
A group of St. Paul students represented the school at the Respect Life Mass at the cathedral of St. Joseph on Sunday, October 7. Sophomores Cameron Baston and Shaun Remillard served as readers during the Liturgy of the Word, and St. Paul's Religion chair, Larry Duffany assisted with the intercessions.

Archbishop Leonard P. Blair shared spontaneous remarks at the close of Mass to affirm the consistent presence and witness of St. Paul at such events, including the annual March for Life Pilgrimage to Washington, D.C. Go Falcons!

The Saint Gianna Beretta Molla Medals are given to persons who have demonstrated commitment to the protection of all human life. This year's recipients are:

The Reverend Lawrence Symolon - Pastor of St. John of the Cross in Middlebury.
Virginia Baudinet-Co-founder of Carolyn's Place Pregnancy Care Center in Waterbury and; Roberta Tuttle - Retired editor of the Catholic Transcript Magazine.

St. Paul Namesake to be Canonized
On October 14, 2018, Pope Francis will canonize Pope Paul VI, who was Pope during the founding of St. Paul Catholic High School. Although our school is named primarily for St. Paul of Tarsus, the name choice was also an acknowledgement of the reigning Pontiff at the time of the founding. Blessed Oscar Romero and four other "Blesseds" will also be canonized during the same ceremony. Learn more HERE.

Matthew Sefcik '22 attended his Boy Scouts Order of the Arrow Ordeal.  The Order of the Arrow is a 103 year old honor society within the Boy Scouts of America that is made up of the best and brightest in Scouting.  To be inducted into the Order, Scouts first must be elected by their own peers within their troop who see him as being one who lives the Scout Oath and Law in his daily life, then endure a weekend filled with silence, fasting, and cheerful service.  He now joins the ranks of his older brother, Joseph H. Sefcik '19, in the Tschitani Lodge of the Order of the Arrow.  Matthew's goals are to work towards the next level of the OA called Brotherhood, and of course to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Congratulations Matthew!!!

Did you know?

The CT Department of Revenue Services has recently confirmed that 529 Education Savings Accounts, which can now be used for private K-12 school tuition, just as they are currently used for college tuition, will not be subjected to any state tax penalties under current state law.

This means that parents, grandparents, and other family members can invest in the State of Connecticut's CHET Program, and apply funds saved in those accounts to K-12 nonpublic Catholic school tuition bills.  They will be able keep their state tax deductions for their CHET contributions, the same as if the funds were used for college tuition.

CLICK HERE for the "Connecticut 529 FAQs"
CLICK HERE for an article about the new tax break.

Many families may benefit from the use of this vehicle for saving and for paying Catholic school tuition.  Families are encouraged to consult with their financial advisors and/or contact the CHET program directly for more information.
