December is a month for giving, so I want to give you an extra edition of the Chamber’s Executive Director’s Newsletter Column full of GREAT News of our wonderful community.

I hope you were able to attend Mayor Scott Maddasion’s presentation on the State of the City of Clinton. Mayor Scott, City Administrator Matt Brooke and the City staff put on a very upbeat, positive presentation.

If you think there are not great things going on in our community, you are wrong. Here are just a few bullets as examples. You can review the entire presentation on the City’s YouTube page. Look it up!

  1. To lead off, how about $1.017 billion in capital improvements from 2020, 2021 and carrying over to 2022!
  2. $6 million new linear accelerator at MercyOne.
  3. Expanding manufacturing and jobs: Spiber America/ADM; Nestle Purina expansion; Timken Drives expansion into Clinton; Big River Packaging; and more.
  4. Education: new Clinton HS; Clinton Community College Career and Technical Education Center (CTE).
  5. Housing: Valley Bluff Apartments; Riverstone Crossing; Zara Heights sub-division; Wilson Lofts; Cottage Bluff Triplexes; Gut rehab of existing housing stock; demolition of nuisance properties.
  6. Tourism and amenities: Riverview Park improvements; RAGBRAI; Parks and Rec improvements; re-opening of the north gate in Joyce's Slough.
  7. Public Safety: crime down significantly overall; additional ambulance.
  8. Roads: $15 million Raise Grant for Manufacturing Drive and Bluff Blvd; ongoing street improvements.
