PARCS UPDATE #160: September 9, 2001 -
UNVEILING OUR PLANS FOR CONVENTION 2020
We started with a plan for a regular face-to-face Convention at the Hilton Garden Inn - which has now been undone by the fourth wave of Covid-19 and the ferocity of the Delta Variant.
Instead we now are offering a 1-day virtual program on SATURDAY, OCT. 16th.
The program will include morning workshops and afternoon convention business (reports, discussion and elections). Like our Spring Seminar, this 1-DAY WORKSHOP & CONVENTION will be FREE to all who register (both members and non-members) and will be hosted on GoToWebinar software with a large capacity.
OUR MORNING CONVENTION SPEAKERS
Chuck Deschamps is a biologist with Ducks Unlimited. He holds an Honours Bsc. in Wildlife Management from the U of Guelph. We have asked Chuck to begin his presentation by reviewing some of the claims that were made at our Spring Seminar regarding what needs to happen to PROTECT THE HEALTH OF OUR SOUTHERN LAKES. He will also refer to some of the Ducks Unlimited programs for protecting our natural areas. We have especially asked Chuck to comment on whether wetland drainage practices may need to be re-examined in Sask. Chuck will speak at 9:00 am, Sat. Oct. 16.
Shari Hildred is the principal consultant with Val More Consulting. Her firm has worked with many organizations in Saskatchewan regarding ways to streamline their meetings and decision-making processes. Shari will give advice about improving meetings, when to use a Consent Agenda, how to simplify Roberts Rules of Order, the role of the chair and the voting process, along with conflict of interest and best practices for minutes. Shari's session will be of interest to both councils (of resort villages and rm's) but also to Organized Hamlet Boards. Shari will speak at 10:30 am Sat. October 16.
Our afternoon program will be reserved for delegates from PARCS member communities. There will be reports from the President, the financial report, establishing priorities for the future and elections as required.
