FRESHMAN CHECK IN
July 13th and 14th
8:00am - 3:30pm in the Student Union
Students will receive their student identification card, complete their health screenings, obtain their Chromebook (laptop) if using a school issued computer, and pay for any initial fees.
FRESHMAN ORIENTATION
July 20th 8:00am - 12:30pm in the Main Gym
This orientation will be led by faculty and "Link Crew" members, who are upperclassmen and will serve as mentors throughout the school year. During this time, students will get to know each other, learn about Cienega, what to expect when they walk in the first day, and will take part in educational activities to help ease the transition into high school. We strongly recommend all incoming freshman attend this orientation.

FRESHMAN PARENT "BOOTCAMP"
July 20th 8:00am - 12:30 in the Student Union
While Freshmen students are going through the Freshman Orientation, parents are highly encouraged to attend the Parent Boot-Camp at the same time. On this day, parents will be immersed in the culture of Cienega High School. We will have breakout sessions for the parents to get educated on the rules, procedures, and offerings at Cienega High School. Parents will learn about how to access students' grades, teacher's online curriculum, strategies to assist your student to a successful freshman year, school tours, etc. There will also be an optional presentation regarding athletics from 12:30 - 1:00 pm. It will be helpful to bring your PowerSchool login information. In addition, ask your student for their Vail login and password before you come to the parent bootcamp (it is the same as last year).

STUDENT DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP
If you are dropping off your student in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon, please enter our campus through the main gate. You will be directed to the right side of the parking lot where you will be able to loop around to the front of the parking lot. Cones and staff members will be in the parking lot to help direct you. Please keep in mind that 8:30 - 8:40am and 3:20 - 3:30pm are the busiest times to be in our parking lot, especially the first two weeks of the new school year. There seems to be less congestion 10-20 minutes before the first bell and 10-20 minutes after the last bell if you can come during those times. We appreciate your patience and cooperation when picking up or dropping off your student.

DRESS CODE
We work to prepare students at Cienega for life after high school. Part of that effort is establishing a dress code appropriate for a high school learning environment. We want to partner with parents to help students make good judgments regarding what they should wear to school. The specifics of our dress code can be found on page 10 in the Student Handbook, which is posted on our website - click on resources, click on parent resources, and then scroll down and click on Student Handbook. For a quick reference, click on the following link and watch a short video explaining our dress code made by our Student Council members.
CELL PHONES
Cell phones are permitted on campus throughout the entire school day. In fact, some teachers incorporate the use of various technology devices, including cell phones, as an instructional tool. Teachers will instruct students on when cell phones should be put away and when they are permitted to be used for any purpose in their class.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Students are to be in school and class if they expect to learn and earn credit for the course. We have a 9 absence (excused or unexcused) limit per class per semester for a stunt to earn credit for the course. All students who have reached 9 absences in any one class must appeal their absences to reinstate credit. Only students who have a documented Chronic Illness Plan are exempt from this process. Students can schedule an appeal during the last three weeks of each
semester.
LOCKERS
We do not have lockers in our hallways, so students will need a backpack and a computer sleeve for their Chromebook. Students taking a PE class will have a locker assigned to them in the gym locker room. Students will have to purchase a lock from the bookstore. This can be done during freshman registration on
July 13th and 14th
.
