Parenting during these unprecedented times brings unprecedented challenges. In this session, Dr. Joanne Foster offers practical strategies relating to the following:

1) how to respond to children’s curiosity and help them understand and deal with what’s happening around them; and

2) how to spark creativity at home so children will be excited, and build upon their strengths, interests, resourcefulness, and adaptability.

Dr. Foster will also address parents’ concerns about fortifying children’s learning experiences and supporting their well-being during this exceptionally difficult time.

About The Presenter

Joanne Foster, Ed.D. is a child development expert who has worked in the field of gifted education for over 30 years. She has a Master’s degree in Special Education and Adaptive Instruction, and a Doctoral degree in Human Development and Applied Psychology. Her writing reflects her extensive and robust experience—as a parent, teacher, consultant, university instructor, and community advocate. Her newest book is ABCs of Raising Smarter Kids: Hundreds of Ways to Inspire Your Child (2019 Award Finalist, American Best Books). Dr. Foster also wrote Not Now, Maybe Later: Helping Children Overcome Procrastination, and Bust Your BUTS: Tips for Teens Who Procrastinate (recipient of the Independent Book Publishers Association’s 2018 Silver Benjamin Franklin Award). She is co-author, with Dona Matthews, of Beyond Intelligence: Secrets for Raising Happily Productive Kids, and the multi award-winning book Being Smart about Gifted Education. Dr. Foster’s articles are featured in publications around the world, including online in her column at The Creativity Post , and she shares material on learning issues for First Time Parent Magazine . Dr. Foster taught Educational Psychology as well as Gifted Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto, where she also served as the gifted liaison for many years. She continues to provide leadership in areas of giftedness and high-level development, working with parents, teachers, and other professionals across North America, and beyond.
