Bender Publishing was released and we sold a lot of them until the book eventually went out of print a few years later. Now almost 20 yrs. later used copies sell on Amazon for $100 and more.
In January 2020, publisher Roger James Bender passed away and sadly his company was no more. The family had the task of liquidating his estate and due to some legal problems the remaining stock of books was tied up in red tape.
While going through the warehouse inventory they uncovered 150 pcs. of the Otto Skorzeny book still in the original printer cartons and each individually shrink wrapped. The Skorzeny books would later be given over to Craig W.H. Luther who was the editor of the book. Craig is a friend and reached out to me to see if we could help him sell off the inherited stock.
Is this book an interesting read? Most definitely. I was recently thumbing through it and stopped on the chapter where Skorzeny had a very interesting meeting with Hitler and his general staff about their plans for the Ardennes offensive. Skorzeny recounts word for word the conversation he had with Hitler and and talks openly about the challenges facing him with the secret mission to lead a group of English speaking soldiers dressed in American uniforms.
Also covered in detail is Skorzeny's front line experiences during the invasion of Russia, the high stakes rescue of Mussolini, the take over of Budapest, and the fighting on the Eastern Front in 1945. It’s definitely an excellent read and I found his first hand accounts to be very interesting and informative.
