Federal Agencies Announce Tribal Consultations following President Biden's Executive Order

President Biden’s “Memorandum on Tribal Consultation and Strengthening Nation-to-Nation Relationships” is intended to strengthen the government's relationship with Tribes while encouraging federal agencies to consult with Tribes on all issues that impact Tribal Nations.

In March, several federal agencies that directly impact Tribal health are holding Tribal consultation sessions and/or have deadlines related to their Tribal consultation plans, including:

March 4, 2021, 2:00 PM ET: Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) consultation on their COVID-19 Funeral Assistance Program.
March 9, 2021, 11:30 AM ET: United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) consultation on their Tribal consultation plan.
March 11, 2021, 11:30 AM ET: USDA consultation on their Tribal consultation plan.
March 15, 2021: FEMA deadline for all written comments on their COVID-19 Funeral Assistance Program
March 15, 2021, 3:00 PM ET: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) consultation on their Tribal consultation policy.
March 17, 2021, 2:00 PM ET: EPA consultation on their Tribal consultation policy.
March 22, 2021, 10:00 AM ET: Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) consultation for Regions 1, 2, 3, and 4.
March 22, 2021, 2:00 PM ET: HHS consultation for Region 5.
March 23, 2021, 2:00 PM ET: HHS consultation for Regions 7 and 8.
March 24, 2021, 10:00 AM ET: HHS consultation for Region 6.
March 24, 2021, 2:00 PM ET: HHS consultation for Region 9.
March 25, 2021, 2:00 PM ET: HHS consultation for Region 10.
March 26, 2021: HHS deadline for all written comments regarding Tribal consultation.
March 31, 2021: EPA deadline for all written comments on their Tribal consultation policy.
