Bits and Pieces

Febuary 17, 2026

Mr. Murfee has been watching the Olympics with me! He watched the skaters do “twizzles” and he wanted to know what the big deal was all about with twizzles, mainly since he does them every day and has been seen by me twizzling across the back yard, following the fence line. He says he deserves a “10” for that skill, and even Ditto-the-WonderHorse agrees that his are perfect. Then he watched the skeleton runs on the ice, took the position (minus the sled), and just laid there, not knowing why he wasn’t moving downhill. He finally got up, said it was a dumb sport, and moved on to something else. Speed skating…he was a natural, only he didn’t have the help of the ice, and he had to do his over the dirt, but boy, could that boy move fast! Bronze medal at least. Luge and Bobsled he put in the same category as Skeleton, so he decided next to take on all the sports that use a ball or a puck or even a stone (curling). I needed to explain the rules of each to him, more or less, so he’d know if he’d vie for a medal or not. If he couldn’t get some sort of reward, he’d pick up his toys (equipment) and go in the house. He can be a little temperamental that way! He chose curling, picked himself as the dirt/icer, and played his little heart out digging a smooth path for the stone to move over until scoring a goal! He won gold, of course, since he had absolutely no competition. And now, he awaits more challenging events, ones that he can do on dirt instead of ice. Can hardly wait to see what he comes up with this week!!!

On Wed., we have the first of our Embroider on Everything class. For your convenience, we are combining two lessons every other month: Feb. 18 is our first class and will include both Lesson One and Two, of the total twelve lessons. We have a supply list for you, and there will be some required class preparations before each session. You will purchase, before the classes begin, a Skill Hub card, and the monthly content will be released to you from BERNINA on the 15th of each month, so you will have time to have prepared for our classes. The first lesson begins with strong foundational skills, going over basic embroidery tools and quilting cotton embroidery. Lesson 2 that day will dive into in-the-hoop projects. Each lesson includes a video and step by step handout so you can follow, repeat and practice at your own pace. Our in-shop class is free to you, with Lauri W at the helm for instruction, once you have purchased the Skill Hub Card from us at SVQ. If you’re going to join us, and we hope you will, do so before Feb. 18 so you will come to class prepared. This is a BERNINA based class, and very worthwhile for embroidery!!!

Don’t forget to check your calendar for the QCT, Quiltmagine, Quilt Path Fundamentals specialty classes coming Marth 18-19, and on March 20 or 21 to learn more about the fundamentals of automation on your longarm Grace/Q’nique machine. The first two days are hands-on, providing a thorough introduction to the fundamentals of automation. This will include blocks and pantographs, technique demos at the frame using a panel tailored for the fundamentals, a show and tell slide show, and Q & A time. There is a supply list for you once you’ve signed and paid for the class and thus reserved your spot. Spots are quickly filling, size is limited, so don’t delay.

On March 20 or 21, you will spend a full day of hands-on Gold Card training at the frame! You’ve been asking for this, so don’t miss out! Each day is limited to 6 participants, so sign and pay now to reserve your spot! Once again, we are bringing in our expert, Joyce Blowers, all the way from New York, she’s an excellent instructor, and you will get lots of hands-on experience! If you’ve taken one of her classes with us before, you will know what I’m talking about. As an added bonus, we will be providing lunches for you each day, as well as “snack breaks”!

We have a private group in the classroom Thursday and Friday, and Saturday JoAnn is finishing up Day 3 of the One Block Wonder class. I can’t wait to see the quilt tops, the variety, how each one has come together! For me, that’s the really fun part of the quilt, and how you can rearrange parts for an entirely different look. Finally, Monday brings us Day 2 of the Quilted Jacket class with Cora. It’s all in the fabrics or quilted quilts that you have chosen for your jacket. Cora has 3 different looks and styles sampled in the classroom, so which one did you choose, and how are you executing your choice????

We are still offering you some spectacular savings until February ends on our Janome Red Tag machines with great gifts and/or prices, our BERNINA 20% off MSRP sales on machines AND Presser Feet and the BERNINA BIG BOOKS, as well as fantastic savings on our Grace/Q’nique longarm machines and frames, many bundled with frames when purchasing the Little Rebel, 16Xor 16X Elite, the 19X Elite and the 21 X Elite, with savings on some packages at around $4,000!!!

It’s a fun time to be a quilter, to be able to upgrade your machine, to be able to save a bunch of money while doing so, to be able to explore and expand your sewing, quilting, embroidery and software skills (while saving a bunch of money), or to be able to use the equipment that you already have and to learn new uses for that equipment. If everything is a positive step for you, everything is also possible!!! To help you save even more, we’ve just added our Kona sheen fabrics to clearance: remember that your fabric has two sides, you pay for both sides, so you can choose to use the sheen side or the solid side and have your fabric doing double duty! With that in mind, let’s do Blenders and Basics this week at 20% off when you give us the code. The code is…..B&B20. That’s in-store and online (www.sunvalleyquilts.com). We have new fabrics coming in almost daily, and new machines coming in, also. Like the new Harry Potter Bernette 79 machine with exclusive Harry Potter motifs! It’s a really smart looking machine in matte black with gold accents, for sewing and embroidery, including Dual Feed and Auto Thread Cutter! Exclusive designs and 3 hoops included, with a knee lever and 7mm stitch width!!! We’re waiting for them to arrive any day!!! Plus, we have a sample of the freestanding lace Harry Potter Castle which you might want to make for your first project on your Harry Potter Machine…..come see, come see! Hope to see you soon!
