A Message from

SPHA's President and CEO

As the President and CEO of the St. Petersburg Housing Authority (SPHA), I'm pleased to share with you some updates and news in our Summer Newsletter.

Our priority continues to be ensuring you have safe, comfortable, and affordable housing, as well as providing services that can enhance your quality of life.

SPHA has been expanding our youth programming. In April, SPHA partnered with the City of St. Petersburg to launch a youth basketball program. The Rising Stars Midnight Basketball Showcase tournament was held on April 12th, at the Thomas "Jet" Jackson Recreation Center.

SPHA is working on new housing projects! On April 3rd, we took core samples at the site of our upcoming affordable housing development. We're collaborating with Blue Sky Communities and Place Architecture on a new residential community, located at Hartford Street North and 32nd Avenue North, near the 34th Street corridor.

Construction is underway on The Edward White Campus. This redevelopment project will transform the former Edward White Hospital into affordable housing. SPHA will be relocating our administrative offices to the campus. Additionally, Evara Health will offer clinician services at the campus.

We deeply value your feedback and are always looking for ways to improve your experience as an SPHA resident. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have questions or suggestions: Communications@stpeteha.org

Together, we are building a stronger, more connected community, and I thank you for being a part of it.

Maintenance in a Minute

Proper Dispose of Grease

The proper way to dispose of grease is to throw it in the trash in a sealed container. You should never pour grease down the drain, as it can cause clogs and damage plumbing.

Steps for disposing of grease:

  1. Let the grease cool and solidify.
  2. Pour the grease into a sealable container, such as a glass jar, milk carton, or empty coffee can.
  3. Label the container "Cooking Oil—Not for Recycling".
  4. Throw the container in the trash.
