AN INSPIRED CAT NAP!

Ziggy has big paws and fur for days! An avid reader on a spiritual journey, Ziggy was seen taking a cat nap in the home he shares with Ali Oswalt and Seth Linn.

We hear Ziggy would like to cuddle with others who have read JESUS CALLING.

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?!?

Yikes! After bringing in the pros and getting many SPCers to volunteer for a live test, we thought the Zoom problems were behind us. Last week was not great. The transmission was not universally smooth. Our goal continues to be a connection that allows people viewing on Zoom to hear and see the service and to enable those at home to participate as those in the sanctuary do. Thank you for tuning in, and thank you for your patience!

Hymn #726 - Will You Come and Follow Me (verses 1, 2 and 4)

“Will you come and follow me if I but call your name?

Will you go where you don’t know and never be the same?

Will you let my love be shown; will you let my name be known;

will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?”

“Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name?

Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same?

Will you risk the hostile stare should your life attract or scare?

will you let me answer prayer in you and you in me?”

“Will you love the ‘you’ you hide if I but call your name?

Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same?

Will you use the faith you’ve found to reshape the world around,

though my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me?”

Reading - Elder Kathy Thompson

Genesis 18:1-15 (New Revised Standard Version)

The LORD appeared to Abraham by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the entrance of his tent in the heat of the day. He looked up and saw three men standing near him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent entrance to meet them, and bowed down to the ground. He said, ‘My lord, if I find favor with you, do not pass by your servant. Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. Let me bring a little bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on—since you have come to your servant.’ So they said, ‘Do as you have said.’ And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, ‘Make ready quickly three measures of choice flour, knead it, and make cakes.’ Abraham ran to the herd, and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to the servant, who hastened to prepare it. Then he took curds and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree while they ate.

They said to him, ‘Where is your wife Sarah?’ And he said, ‘There, in the tent.’ Then one said, ‘I will surely return to you in due season, and your wife Sarah shall have a son.’ And Sarah was listening at the tent entrance behind him. Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, ‘After I have grown old, and my husband is old, shall I have pleasure?’ The LORD said to Abraham, ‘Why did Sarah laugh, and say, “Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?” Is anything too wonderful for the LORD? At the set time I will return to you, in due season, and Sarah shall have a son.’ But Sarah denied, saying, ‘I did not laugh’; for she was afraid. He said, ‘Oh yes, you did laugh.’

Some of us say, "forgive us our debts," and others, "forgive us our trespasses." Please pray with the words that are familiar to you and speak to your relationship with God. We seek unity, not conformity.

Prayer of Dedication

Hymn #174 – Come and Seek the Ways of Wisdom (verses 1, 2 and 3)

For the fruit of all creation, thanks be to God.

For the gifts to every nation, thanks be to God.

For the plowing, sowing, reaping, silent growth while we are sleeping,

future needs in earth’s safekeeping, thanks be to God.

In the just reward of labor, God’s will be done.

In the help we give our neighbor, God’s will be done.

In our world-wide task of caring for the hungry and despairing,

in the harvests we are sharing, God’s will be done.

For the harvests of the Spirit, thanks be to God.

For the good we all inherit, thanks be to God.

For the wonders that astound us, for the truths that still confound us,

most of all that love has found us, thanks be to God.

MOVIE CLUB WITH JOE & PAUL

Wednesday, February 19 at 2:00 PM

MY OLD ASS is a 2024 dramedy coming-of-age story about a teenage girl living on a cranberry farm in Muskoka Lakes, Ontario, preparing to leave for Toronto shortly after her eighteenth birthday. To celebrate her birthday, she and her friends take some mushrooms and in the ensuing trip, the girl has a conversation with her 39-year-old future self. Funny and moving, this film captures the complexities of life, love and aging, without being maudlin. It has a well-deserved 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film starts at 2:00 PM and is followed by a discussion. Snacks and beverages are provided; some folks bring something to share.

VISUALIZE A PERSONAL POSITIVE FUTURE

Sunday, February 23 at 11:30 AM

As we get into the New Year, let's take a fresh look at our personal desires and intentions. We're bringing back a favorite SPC event - making Goal Posters or Vision Boards. This is fun and uplifting to do in a group!  Whatever the name, they include images of things you would like to create for your future. It could relate to your career, retirement, living space, a relationship or an opportunity. Whatever "calls to you" and would bring you joy.

Cutting pictures from magazines or drawing pictures is great,,, anything visual. The tech-savvy can print graphics for the posters or create digital collages on their devices. No matter the format, the picture becomes both a reminder and a magnet - drawing you in. Add positive phrases or affirmations if you like. Take the poster home to display so you'll see it daily, or use the images as your digital wallpaper.  Join Alice Cochran, Deacon Mimi Riley and others. We'll bring poster boards, scissors, glue, magazines, etc. If you have magazines, great, if not, just bring your imagination, and we'll create together in Thomson Hall after fellowship. (Approximately 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM) Info: Alice@AliceCochran.com

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PARKING!
The police department has created a special parking pass for when people are attending an event at SPC. This pass will waive the resident permit that is required in this neighborhood after 6:00 PM. Please note, you must otherwise be parked legally -- that means you will still get a ticket if you are parked in a red zone, close to a fire hydrant, or in a "No Parking Anytime" area. Likewise, it will not work unless you are attending a function at the church.
If the pass is used inappropriately, they will revoke it. The passes are free but there will be a replacement fee charged for lost or misplaced passes.
IF YOU RECEIVED A TICKET and IF YOU PAID A TICKET in the past couple weeks for parking in Residential Zone C during a church event, please let Pastor Paul know.
Questions? Need a pass? Email Pastor Paul at paul.r.mowry@gmail.com
