TODAY!! TODAY!! TODAY!!
MOVIE CLUB WITH JOE & PAUL
Wednesday, September 17 at 2:00 PM
THE BALLAD OF WALLIS ISLAND is a new British film shot in Wales and has a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score.
The film follows famed singer and songwriter Herb McGwyer (Tom Basden) as he travels to a secluded island for an unusual gig: to perform for widowed nurse (turned wealthy lottery winner) Charles. But Charles has a little more in mind than watching a concert and soon a powerful and challenging journey is underway.
This tender and heartwarming story about an unlikely friendship is told perfectly with its laugh-out-loud dry British sense of humor, and quiet strength that is sure to move you.
The film starts at 2:00 PM and is followed by a lively conversation. Popcorn and beverages provided. Some people bring something to share.

Dear Beloved Friend,
The world is hungry for hope. Shadows of division, loneliness, and worry can feel overwhelming. Yet, we believe God has given us the gift of light—as Jesus said: “You are the light of the world.”
Our little church has always been a place where light shines. It shines in our worship, where we lift each other up with word and song. It shines in our outreach, when we support children around the world, feed the hungry around the corner, care for the vulnerable, comfort the mourning, and stand with the marginalized. It shines in our fellowship, as we laugh, cry, and grow together in love. We are an unusual church community, sharing a wide range of theological, political, and philosophical ideas—a community built upon love and light, where all are truly welcome!
In this stewardship season, we embrace the transformation from fear to love, from darkness to light. Each pledge is more than dollars and cents—it’s a candle lit, a beacon glowing, a promise that our church’s light will not be hidden, but will shine brightly for all to see.
Your generosity ensures that the doors of our sanctuary remain open, our ministries flourish, and our mission of love extends beyond these walls. In giving, you are part of a sacred story—the story of God’s light breaking into the world through us, bringing the dawn of a new day.
We invite you to prayerfully consider your pledge. Together, we step out of the shadows and into radiant hope. Please think about renewing or, hopefully, increasing your pledge for the coming year. All pledges are welcome, from members and non-members, and all are confidential.
Let us shine—brighter than ever.
The Stewardship Committee
Dennis Watson, Chair
Steve Fugaro, Barbara Geisler, Jean Patterson

WHAT IS MEMBERSHIP? WHY MEMBERSHIP?
Here at SPC, everyone who comes through the door is a member! That's because this is a house of God and God calls us all home.
There is also a more formal membership in the church, that many (but not all) of us participate in. If you are interested in learning more about the formal membership, please email Lynne Parode at parodelim@comcast.net

PRAYER & HEALING GROUP
Tuesday, October 7 at 5:30 PM
Meets on the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of the month.
No matter who you are and what you believe, we welcome you to join us in an hour of peaceful prayer. Come pray for yourself, your family and friends, our church / country / world. When we gather, we take time for silent prayer as well as lifting up those prayers that have been offered up on Sunday, both in person and online.
We like to say no experience necessary! You may have never prayed in your life. Or maybe not in a long while. Let us simply gather in a blessed and peaceful time of connection, where we can pray and minister to each other's needs. No RSVP is necessary, just come to Thomson Hall at 5:30 PM on the 1st or 3rd Tuesday of the month.
Questions? Contact Deacon Alison Deal at alisondeal17@gmail.com
All are welcome!

BEYOND THE BOOK BOOK CLUB
Monday, October 13 at 6:00 PM in Thomson Hall
The Art of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan-Philipp Sendker, translated from German. This is a passionate love story, a haunting fable, and an enchanting mystery set in Burma. When a successful New York lawyer suddenly disappears without a trace, neither his wife nor his daughter Julia has any idea where he might be… until they find a love letter he wrote many years ago, to a Burmese woman they have never heard of. Intent on solving the mystery and coming to terms with her father’s past, Julia decides to travel to the village where the woman lived. There she uncovers a tale of unimaginable hardship, resilience, and passion that will reaffirm the reader’s belief in the power of love to move mountains.

Our New Artist in THall!
Dana Christensen
Visual Artist
Mixed Media, Painting, Photography
I began my journey into art as a photographer, growing up on the East Coast. I went to graduate school in Connecticut and was fascinated by the old mill towns that were abundant at the time. Such a sense of loss and decay. In the decades since, I've focused on the natural world, beautiful as well as distressed, as everything tells a story.
My current work takes a step away from representational imagery and moves toward creating a feeling of mystery and transcendence using a variety of mediums and processes. I combine alternate materials with photography--silk, vellum, paints, pastels, and gold & palladium leafing—to bring depth, dimension and luminescence.
