CHRIST IS RISEN!

HE IS RISEN INDEED!

An old tradition calls on Christians to first greet each other on Sunday morning with the words, "Christ is risen!" and for the other person to reply, "He is risen indeed!" Known as the Paschal Greeting, there is evidence to date this tradition back to the second century. Listen for Benjamin Goldstein to call out to the congregation, "Christ is risen!"

To which we will all say, "He is risen indeed!"

AN EASTER EGG HUNT

RIGHT AFTER THE SUNDAY SERVICE!

VOLUNTEER TO HELP HIDE EGGS (right after the service) and then watch the excitement flow as our youngest friends hurry through the sanctuary in search of treats encased in brightly colored eggs!

THIS YEAR'S EASTER FLOWERS HONOR OR REMEMBER A LOVED ONE...

Our Liturgical Arts crew are creative and talented! Diane Jorgensen and Deacon Alison Deal pour hours into preparing the chancel for our special services, such as today. Please feel free to share any appreciations with them!

The flowers are made possible through our annual flower fund. We thank all the people who made a donation to bring flowers into our service today. These donations were made to honor a loved one, or to honor the memory of a deceased love one.

This year, the flowers on the chancel will be replanted on the Excelsior-side of the church's yard to create a living remembrance.

Aria for Harp and Organ by Paul Manz with Dan Levitan, Harp

A Call to the People – Benjamin Goldstein

I know why you are here. You are seeking the one they call the Christ.

Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here.

Rejoice heavenly powers! Sing choirs of angels! Exalt all creation!

Rejoice, O, earth, in shining splendor!

Rejoice, O servant Church, exalt in glory.

Let this place resound with joy echoing the mighty song of all God’s people:

Christ is risen!

(THE PEOPLE) He is risen, indeed!

(BEN) Jesus Christ Is Risen Today! Hallelujah!

Hymn #232 - Jesus Christ Is Risen Today! (verses 1 - 3) Verse 3 arr. John Rutter

Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!

Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!

Who did once upon the cross, Alleluia!

Suffer to redeem our loss. Alleluia!

Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!

Unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia!

Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!

Sinners to redeem and save. Alleluia!

But the pains which He endured, Alleluia!

Our salvation have procured; Alleluia!

Now above the sky He’s King, Alleluia!

Where the angels ever sing. Alleluia!

Reading - Elder Kathy Thompson

Luke 23:44-47 (New Revised Standard Version)

It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, while the sun’s light failed; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, ‘Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.’ Having said this, he breathed his last. When the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God and said, ‘Certainly this man was innocent.’

Luke 24:1-11 (New Revised Standard Version)

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in, they did not find the body. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them. The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, ‘Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.’ Then they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb, they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. But these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.
