Dear Friends,
We have entered Holy Week, when Jesus’ earthly ministry will come to a close as he navigates systems of power, betrayal, abandonment, anger, false accusations, physical abuse, rejection, denial, mocking, and, finally, crucifixion. Maybe you have experienced some of these in your life. If so, know that Jesus understands, and is with you in the hard times of life. It is important to remember that Holy Week does not end on Good Friday (in darkness, struggle, and death), but on Easter Sunday!
|
Easter is when our Jesus is resurrected, and not only receives new life, but gives new life to the world! That includes all of us. It is a reminder that “trouble don’t last always,” and that “weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” Mostly, it is a reminder that love wins! I pray that you remember that this week, as you are reminded by every word and action of Jesus. Jesus loved us enough to rise, and call us forth to rise – from the pain and struggles of life – to find deep love and new life, with him. So, let’s remember to spread that love this resurrection season, knowing how blessed we are to have a savior, a Lord, a friend, a king, and an elder brother in Jesus. Happy Easter!
|
Last week, we sent out palm crosses to all our Across the Miles members. I pray that you enjoyed being in solidarity with the rest of your Spiritus family, as we waved our palms in Rochester this past Sunday. We love you all very much! Thanks for your ongoing support and engagement remotely.

A big shout out to Jim Smith and the Prison Outreach Ministry staff, on the $2 million grant award from the Mackenzie Scott Fund. In its application for funding, Spiritus Christi Prison Outreach reported 98% success rate in preventing recidivism, 93% of program participants remaining in stable housing, and 90% maintaining physical and mental or behavioral health treatment plans. What an amazing job! God’s work and the hard work of the men and women in this ministry is truly incredible! Congratulations!
| April 1st through April 8th, I will be away in Ghana. Last year, I joined a national group called Black Women in Ministry (BWIM). As an experience of professional development, they are taking a group of about 40 black women in ministry to Ghana, to learn many things about history, culture, and leadership. I look forward to sharing the experience when I return. Keep me in your prayers. |
We send our condolences this week to Steve Martin & family on the death of Steve’s mom, Elizabeth Martin. We send our prayers of comfort to Linda Orlowski, on the death of her husband, Ben Orlowski, and to Wally Ruehl, on the death of his father-in-law, Joe. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Georgianna Greenlee on the death of her brother, Richard Michaud, and to the Hanrahan family on the death of Jane Hanrahan.

Remember to prepare to see the eclipse!
