MoMents of Nice
Ali Kenner Brodsky, artistic director of ali kenner brodsky & co., makes gesturally rich and emotionally driven dance-theater works.
MoMents of Nice is an evening-length dance-theater work exploring memory, loss, and love. Three dancers perform short vignettes choreographed by Ali Kenner Brodsky, with live music by composer MorganEve Swain of Warren, RI. MoMents of Nice will premiere at Jamestown Art Center in Jamestown, RI, as well as Space Gallery in Maine.

TINNEY FAMILY ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Newport County offers the Tinney Family Arts Scholarship of $2,000 in memory of the Tinney Family. The Tinney family is best known for building a Gold Coronation Coach that was designed by Donald Tinney in 1966. They also restored Belcourt Castle in Newport, created and restored stained glass windows, and inspired students to learn many of the “lost arts.”
Eligibility
  • Deadline for the application and all support materials is in May 14, 2021 to be alerted of specific deadlines.
  • Serious art students who are seniors in high school (any high school or “homeschooled”) who lives in Newport County (Jamestown, Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton), RI.
  • He/she excels in an area or areas of the arts including but not limited to: fine arts, visual arts, (illustration, graphic design, multimedia), performing arts, the literary arts (creative writing, poetry), music (performance, composing), theatre. Other “sub-genres” may also be considered.
  • The applicant must have been accepted to a post-secondary arts program in one of the arts areas outlined above.

Mural Project at Newport Art Museum
ARTISTS WANTED FOR PUBLIC ART PROJECT

Newport Public Art has partnered with Newport Art Museum to execute a 42-foot mural on the exterior of their Museum School. NPA has an open call to artists interested in an opportunity to design and install an original artwork in this special location.

The installation will happen sometime early this summer.
NPA will provide materials, support, and a modest stipend. Anyone who makes art regularly is encouraged to apply, even if they don’t have mural experience. 

The application process is simple, anyone over the age of 18 and a resident of Newport Country is qualified.* The deadline for entry is May 14, 2021.

NEWPORT STRING PROJECT
Hidden Newport
at the Touro Synagogue April 25th at 2pm
The Newport String Project is excited to share the next concert of Hidden Newport, our virtual concert series showcasing some of Newport’s most beautiful and unusual locations through virtual chamber music concerts.
This performance, premiering on April 25th at 2pm on their YouTube Channel, features the Touro Synagogue, a site of deep historical prominence in the Jewish community in Newport. The Touro is the oldest synagogue building still standing in the United States, and the only surviving Synagogue in the country dating back to the colonial era. The program will include works by Joseph Haydn, Erwin Schulhoff, George Gershwin, and Hajime Koumatsu.

Island Moving Company (IMC), Newport’s classically trained contemporary ballet
company, announces tickets are on sale for their Spring repertory production RETURN TO LIVE.
RETURN TO LIVE features world premieres from guest choreographer Colin Connor, former artistic director of the José Limón Dance Company, and Danielle Genest, IMC’s Associate Artistic Director. The performance will also include Mark Harootian’s recent work, Steady Grip, plus repertory favorites Ruth…Less, and A life Well Lived by Miki Ohlsen, IMC’s Artistic Director.

The entire program will run approximately seventy minutes without intermission. All the works in this program will be accompanied by live music arranged by Music Director & cellist Adrienne Taylor, with pianist Andrei Bauman, and violinist Emma Lee Holmes-Hicks. Musical selections feature cello, piano, marimba, viola & violin.
