Lindsay Mickelson joined our transactional group as a paralegal this month. She is located on the 9th floor and works primarily with Kathleen Kleiman and Tom DeBoom.
As you'll read, Lindsay is multi-talented and looks like she could give Kyle Wilcox a run for his money with her magic tricks! In case you didn't know, Kyle has been known to be quite the juggler!
Let's get to know a little bit about Lindsay!
1. What lead you to a career at SPMB? I developed an interest in the legal profession working for the Hy-Vee Real Estate Department for 4 years. I assisted with Purchase Agreements, Leases, Common Area Maintenance Agreements, Easement Agreements, etc. Among other duties assigned such as researching potential locations and compiling demographic reports. I worked quite a bit with tenants and landlords regarding their agreed to terms when it came to invoicing or issuing payments. I later took a few paralegal courses and became a certified paralegal, which lead to my first position in the legal world with SPMB.
2. Where were you raised? I grew up on a farm 12 miles south of Fort Dodge. My dad, David Mickelson, is a farmer and owns his own seed and chemical business. My brother and I were always helping on the farm whether it was walking beans, bailing hay or scooping out livestock pens. I was actively involved in 4-H where I showed cattle and hogs. I even showed hogs at the Iowa State Fair.
3. Any formal education? I went to Iowa Central Community College and graduated with an AA in Liberal Arts in 2010. I then attended Wartburg College and graduated with a BA in Applied Music in 2013. I was actively involved with choir and theatre throughout college. I even got the chance to travel Europe for a month through participating in these activities.
4. What brought you to Cedar Rapids? Upon graduating college, I spent 9 years in Des Moines. In 2020, I met my now fiancé, Mitchell Beatty. Mitchell is a farmer and cattleman from Shellsburg. Mitch drew me back into the farm life and reminded me how much I really missed it. Calving season is my favorite time of year. I love seeing baby calves run all over the pasture. Mitch puts a lot of hard work into the farm to make sure everything runs smoothly. So, in the fall of 2022, I decided to take a leap of faith and move to the Cedar Rapids area in pursuit of my happily ever after. In October of 2023 we got engaged! Now we are hard at work planning our wedding and building our future out on the farm. Our wedding will be in August of 2025.
