Principal's Message

Dear Families,

We welcomed back our 3rd and 4th grade students this week and we are thrilled to see them. It is remarkable how much they have grown since last March! Some are almost taller than me. We plan to bring our 5th grade back in February and are hopeful to have our middle school back on campus sometime in March.

Per the January 14th notification from the California Department of Public Health all schools will need to follow the COVID-19 and Reopening In-Person Instruction Framework & Public Health Guidance for K-12 Schools in California, 2020-2021 School Year.

Therefore, we will update our school reopening plan to include any updated requirements from the state. This new COVID-19 Safety Plan (CSP) will be uploaded to our website on February 1, 2021.

Catholic Schools Week January 31st - February 5th:

This Sunday we kick off Catholic Schools Week! Please join our SPN community at 9:00a.m. as we celebrate Mass together online. Following Mass, you are invited to "visit" your amazing school starting at 10:30a.m. Teachers from art, music, garden, PE, and grade level classrooms, along with student leaders, the Board President and principal, will be available via Zoom for visiting until 11 o'clock. Each "classroom" will be open from 10:30 -11:00a.m. and have its unique zoom link. We will send out links to Mass and all visit sessions later this week. Prospective families are welcome to attend - if you know an interested family, please direct them to our website to register and receive their "visitor" links. Here is the schedule for the week's activities. We look forward to celebrating with you!

Surveys - Important: If you did not take the survey yet, please take a moment to complete. This will help us further develop our program both remotely and in our hybrid model. TK-2 Hybrid Learning Survey, TK-2 Remote Learning Survey and 3rd-8th grade Remote Learning Survey. Thank you!

Building Futures is a program dedicated to helping everyone have a safe place to call home. So here’s where you come in! Building Futures is in need of items to help the people. Every grade has been assigned something to donate. Listed below is what every grade has been assigned to. Items may be sent with onsite learners or dropped in the office next week by Wednesday, February 3rd.See SLC info video here for more information. Thank you and remember even the smallest things help!

Preschool/TK: Deodorant and Soap
Kindergarten: Shampoo and conditioner
First: Ramen noodles and canned goods
Second and Fifth: Hand sanitizer
Third: Gloves
Fourth: Hand wipes
Sixth: Toothpaste and Toothbrushes
Seventh: Lotions
Eighth: Hats and scarves
Faculty: Pads/tampons and disposable masks

TV Day - Tomorrow!: Come dressed as your favorite TV (or movie) character for your zoom sessions tomorrow!

Counselor's Corner - Parent Education Opportunity

Arts-based Zoom Session on Diversity for Parents

Our theme for our recent Diocesan staff day was diversity and inclusion. The Madeleine Parent Association is hosting a Zoom session on Wed, Feb 9 at 6:30 PM with Dr. Veronica Hicks. Teachers and parents are invited to join to learn more about this timely topic.

Community Happenings

Girl Scout Troop 33373, which includes eighth-grade SPN students Jennifer Proffitt and Meadow Mihok, recently completed a community project to earn the Girl Scout Silver Award. They built, painted, and installed two Free Seed Library boxes in Alameda. The Free Seed Library project was started last year by the Alameda Backyard Growers (ABG) to provide free food-growing resources to the community during the pandemic. In the coming weeks, the girls will package the seeds they have purchased to open up the libraries. The original box at 2829 San Jose Ave. has dispensed 2500 packets of seeds to the community so far. New boxes built by the Girl Scouts are at 16 Cove Rd. in Harbor Bay and 305 Santa Clara Ave. on the island’s west end. They will be open for distribution in early February.
