SPN VIPS
(Very Important Parents!)

Dear SPN Families,
Last Friday night we enjoyed a festive and celebratory Sports Awards Night here at school. Our student athletes were rightly acknowledged for the growth, perseverance and teamwork displayed on the courts and fields this year. Each coach took the time to speak to individual player’s contributions and their “secret weapon” that made each of them so important to the team.
Sincere gratitude and congratulations to our Athletic Co-Directors, Erin Manning and Alex Sadie, for their dedication and commitment to Spartan sports during this year of pandemic challenges! We appreciate your leadership for this valued part of our community. Many thanks to all of the parents who supported the Athletic Board this year: Maricela Ramirez, LIz Brunetti, Liane Low-Bevett, Barry Winfield, Ryan Clausnitzer, Michael Jacobs, Sonia Dominguez, and Katie Sacco. Special thanks, too, to Spencer Tse, incoming Athletic Director, who organized and planned a very thoughtful Awards Night with a grand entrance for the athletes complete with balloon arch and fog machine. Coach Tse also showed his commitment to Spartan sports by dying his hair green to show his team of 4th Grade Girls Basketball what it means to be true to your team (He wagered that if they had an undefeated season he would dye his hair blue… they had only one loss, so he thought they deserved some significant recognition.) To all the additional parent volunteer coaches and those who made the year and Awards Night so successful, THANK YOU!

Another dedicated group of parent volunteers makes up our School Advisory Board. Led by President, Doug Evans, our School Board provides guidance and leadership in managing school business and monitoring school programs. Each Board member leads an area of focus for our school; Catholic Identity, Facilities, Enrollment, Marketing, Finance, Belonging & Inclusion, and liaisons for PTG and Athletics. Thank you to the members of the Advisory Board for their time and commitment to supporting SPN excellence: Doug Evans, Carlos Trujillo, Justine Lazaro, Victor Bright, Hailey Castelaz, Nicole Garbayo, Patricia Altemura, and Larry Donovan.
Finally, the Parent Teacher Group (PTG) supports the school with events that enhance our school community. Our gratitude to Helen Bouras, President, and her Board including Emily Libby, Jaime Bartlett, Helen Wang, Meg Glodoveza, Benjamin Yee, and Kellie Graham for their service. The Welcome Event in August, the Ice Cream Social, Book Fair, Catholic Schools Week celebrations, Uniform Exchange, S.T.E.A.M. Night and class parties, are some of the events the PTG provides which make our community shine and thrive.
As we wrap up our year, I invite you to view the State of the School Address 2022 for specific information on our achievements this year– STAR data results, Finances, WCEA Accreditation– and our goals for next year. Despite another year of unprecedented challenges, SPN continues to grow together and to grow stronger due in great part to our very dedicated community of VIPs like you.
Thank you!
Warmly,
Julie Thomas
Principal

Special Faith-Focused Feast Day
|
|
Thursday, May 26th is the 400th anniversary of our own
Saint Philip Neri becoming a saint!
|
|
A special prayer service will be celebrated during our morning assembly for this beloved 16th century saint. Read here about how St. Philip Neri used his engaging personality and sense of humor to bring cynical Romans to consider a life with God!
|
|
|
Also on Thursday the 26th, we have Catholic author and missionary Meg Hunter-Kilmer coming to speak to our students. Ms. Hunter-Kilmer has been traveling and speaking full-time since 2012. She just published her second book called "Saints around the World."
Later, that evening she will be giving a talk for parents at St. Joseph's Basilica.
