Thank YOU for doing YOUR part!
I am so pleased to announce that to-date we have had NO COVID cases or exposures at school. This is a true accomplishment. Our Daily Health Screenings (DHS) are working -- THANK YOU! Our COVID Safety Plan (CSP) is working -- THANK YOU!
You may have seen the press release last Friday from the Governor’s Office:
After implementing first-in-the-nation school masking and staff vaccination measures, California becomes the first state to announce plans to require student vaccinations – adding the COVID-19 vaccine to list of vaccinations required for school, such as the vaccines for measles, mumps, and rubella. Students will be required to be vaccinated for in-person learning starting the term following FDA full approval of the vaccine for their grade span (7-12 and K-6).
The vaccinations for children ages 5-11 should be available sometime in November, 2021. With this availability, and with FDA approval, this would mean that all students ages 5 and up will need to be vaccinated starting July, 2022 for the 2022-23 school year.
Additionally, here are some interesting facts about California as a result of these measures taken:
- California continues to have the lowest case rate of any state in the nation.
- California is one of only two states that have moved out of the CDC’s “high” COVID transmission category.
- There have only been 14 school closures state-wide since implementing these mandates, compared with the 2,000 school closures nationwide: that’s 0.7% of the whole country’s school closures. (Being that California educates roughly 12% of the country’s students, this number would be closer to 240 school closures if we aligned with national trends.)
The trust that our school community members will do the right thing for the greater good is evident in our ability to mitigate the threat of a COVID outbreak at school. That same trust is highlighted as parents meet with teachers this week for Conferences. As families, you trust the school to take care of your children, educating them with the best strategies and mindful considerations in a Catholic school that upholds follows the Gospel values and Jesus’ teachings. As a school, we trust families to follow school procedures and support students in their academic endeavors. We all have responsibilities to our students, and it is through doing our part with integrity that we can reach our goals for the benefit of all. Thank you for doing your part.
Warmly,
Ms. Thomas
Principal
