Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome back! It is so wonderful to have longer days filled with sunshine and I can hardly wait for the warmer weather. I hope everyone had time to recharge and connect over the break, but more than anything, it is my hope that you shared many special memories together. It is so great to have you all back.
During this third term, the next two months will be full of excitement and many activities. To our Grade 12 students, I hope this time is filled with great memories, and time spent with your friends and graduating class as you prepare to begin a new chapter in your academic journey. To all of our HTS students, work hard and have fun while you strive to reach your goals, make wonderful memories and enjoy the opportunities you have through our amazing co-curricular program. Enjoy your final term!
On Tuesday, we will be celebrating our first-ever Global Studies Day. Lower, Middle and Senior School students will be participating in a variety of activities in the field of global studies, and we will be joined by many special guests. I encourage parents to

I am excited for the event and I hope that you will join me in supporting our fabulous students. If you have not bought your tickets,

Student Life Day – Thursday, April 18
Fresh from the success of the first Student Life Day in November, the Student Life Team is proud to announce our second Student Life Day on Thursday, April 18. This day coincides with Earth Day and focuses on the theme of environmental stewardship – one of our school’s three experiential education pillars.
The purpose of this day is to offer all members of our community a day of activity and reflection to experience and celebrate the power and importance of our natural world. The guiding statement for the day reads,
“
As stewards of our natural world, we will seek to understand the value of honouring the land and the species that live on it in order to preserve and protect it for future generations.” This statement will be recognized through a wide variety of Kindergarten to Grade 12 programming experiences. Activities include an Indigenous dance and storytelling experience, on-campus tree planting, recycled art projects, birds of prey presentations, book talks, movie screenings, offsite wellness activities, aquaponics, a campus clean-up, a salmon hatchery activity and much more.
There will also be opportunities for students to gain leadership skills through the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) training and to work with Outward Bound Canada on their Bronze Level Duke of Edinburgh practice hike. A student-run hackathon focused on light pollution will round out the more personalized options for Senior School students.
Mark your calendars and look for more information in upcoming SpotligHTS editions.

Ask a Student Success Counsellor...
Prior to the March Break, Grade 9/10 Student Success Counsellor, Ms Grace Osmond, presented a new initiative to our Middle School students called: “Ask A Student Success Counsellor.”
When students enter Grade 9, they begin working with a Student Success Counsellor who reviews academic planning, transition, career planning, post-secondary research, wellness and social/emotional resiliency. While Student Success works with the Grade 8 students to assist with academic planning and the transition to Senior School, students are typically not assigned a Student Success counsellor until they enter Grade 9. To support the social and emotional questions of our Middle School students, Student Success has implemented a new initiative where our Grade 7 and Grade 8 students will be able to pose questions, in a confidential format, to our Grade 9/10 Student Success Counsellors. This format of support and communication is not intended to support students in crisis, but rather to answer more general questions that students may have. Selected questions will be reviewed by the Student Success counsellors and answers to the questions will be posted in an information case in the Middle School hallway.
