ABC’s Construction Backlog Indicator Rebounds in February, Contractor Confidence Grows

Associated Builders and Contractors reported today that its Construction Backlog Indicator rose to 8.1 months in February, according to an ABC member survey conducted Feb. 20 to March 6. The reading is up 0.1 months from January but down 0.2 months from February 2025. Learn more.

What early 2026 economic data shows for the construction industry

Early economic signals suggest construction has started 2026 with less momentum. The latest data available through early March showed rapid growth in megaprojects in 2025, followed by the softening of several key construction indicators to kick off 2026. For example, contractor backlog slipped to a four-year low in January, the latest month for which data has been reported, and planning activity tumbled. Learn more.
