Beyond the Park Bench

SCK was founded in 2001 by Roxana Reid with the goal of guiding families and students to self-actualize through accessing just-right educational fit. We are a proud black-owned business.
If January is a month for dreamers, let's say February is a month for doers.

When we do we learn. And, as we all know, knowledge is power!

Often taking concrete steps to learn more about parenting our children, whether we're talking toddler or college-bound, gives us the knowledge and confidence we need to be our best selves. And when we approach learning with a positive and open mindset, we most often end up unearthing joy, connection, and meaning - and hence come to relish the journey.
"Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you."
- Walt Whitman
Experiential Learning
Experiential learning is a powerful approach that can benefit students in many ways. It involves actively engaging students in real-world experiences to help them build knowledge and skills, and to deepen their understanding of course material.

Upcoming SCK Workshops!
This Spring, SCK is excited to present two new workshops, each hosted by a panel of experts, and each focusing on different ends of the child-rearing spectrum. Why not challenge yourself to dive in and learn with others about navigating a variety of parenting challenges and responsibilities. When you commit to doing with an open mind, your journey shines and so will you!

Prepare for High School Applications!
Studying for a test with such breadth may seem daunting, but during our four-day Spring Break ISEE Kickstart Program, students learn not only what is on the test but how they can prepare.

Led by an Elite ISEE tutor with more than a decade of experience, this program walks students through the content on each section, introduces test-taking tips and study strategies they will need, and gives students the opportunity to explore new concepts and practice the skills they need to do their best.
Tutor Highlight!
Smart City Tutors provides families with quality instruction from experienced tutors. Our tutors specialize in a range of subjects, as well as offering general academic support, executive functioning guidance, and test preparation.

This month we are highlighting Andrew Giurleo. After graduating from Brown University, where he concentrated in Italian Studies and Music, Andrew went on to tutor students in a multitude of subjects including Test Prep (SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT, SHSAT), executive functioning, and general academics. Andrew has worked with hundreds of students, "opening doors" to help them improve grades and test scores as well as gain confidence in the classroom and beyond. Outside of traditional academic subjects, Andrew teaches leads courses in songwriting and teaches Italian classes. When he’s not tutoring, he can be found singing at open mics, trying new recipes, and running obstacle races.
To learn more about Andrew or any of our other tutors, please visit tutors.smartcitykids.com and complete an inquiry form to get started. We look forward to hearing from you!
