EARTH DAY - and MORE
It's no surprise that Earth Day is a big deal here in Nyack - after all, we do love our planet. This year, Nyack's official celebrating will happen this Saturday, April 27. The seventh annual Earth Day Celebration and MusicFest will run from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Veterans' Memorial Park on Main Street (at Cedar).
And the village - including both our shops - will host a Sidewalk Sale from noon that same day. And in addition to what we're featuring out front, there will be plenty of unadvertised specials in store throughout the day.
Take a walk and see all that Nyack has to offer, as you Shop Small, Shop Local and support your village's brick-and-mortar establishments. Happy Earth Day!
WELCOME BACK
If you've been in lately, then you've seen her - yes, we are beyond pleased to welcome back Lindsay from her maternity leave. The ML team's new mom looks great - and has jumped right back in with her trademark enthusiasm. We're happy to have her in the shop again, as we know you are, too.

FIRST CUBA, THEN INDIA
If you've been following the Maria Luisa blog - or other our social media posts - then you probably know that Maria Luisa Whittingham has been traveling the world of late. We shared her thoughts and inspirations from her trip to Cuba - and now, she is just back from India. There, she was part of a group featuring retailers from around
the country visiting artists and artisans of India, some already featured in the shops - and some soon to be.
A blog post will feature her thoughts on the latest trip, so stay tuned.
As you know, Maria Luisa never stops looking for ways to expand her horizons - and because of that, what's carried in the shops, so get ready for something new.
ALL'S FAIR...
The trip to India has also strengthened Maria Luisa's commitment to Fair Trade principles, with a number of special events planned. First up, the shops will join in recognizing International Fair Trade Day May 11, as we move ever closer to our upcoming announcement about new things planned for ML by Maria Lu
isa in coming months.
ML BY MARIA LUISA SCHOLARSHIP
EDUCATION FIRST
We are so pleased - thanks to your ongoing support - to be able to continue the ML by Maria Luisa Scholarship Fund, with the honorees for the 2018-2019 academic year soon to be announced.
As Maria noted, this year's selection process was especially difficult as the applicants were "such incredible young women."
We plan to honor this year's recipients during a May 16 event; stay tuned for full details.
the award recognizes Rockland County high school seniors, female or those who identify as female, who - through their actions and beliefs, embrace the principles of ML by Maria Luisa.
These include civic and community involvement, commitment to social justice, social equality, and environment/eco-friendly lifestyles. This year, two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded: one to a promising woman who is a senior attending a private or public Rockland County high school and one to a promising woman who is a senior attending Nyack High School. The award is designed to assist with costs in attending a college of their choice.
We look forward to again officially recognizing the next generation of women leaders.

THE COLLABORATION CONTINUES

The introduction of the home goods and accessories designed in collaboration with the award-winning, Nyack-based artist and illustrator has been a real success. The ongoing series that Goodman launched in 2015 is based on more than 20 years of portraiture and collage work. RUN - OR WALK- WITH US AGAIN
It's getting closer - July 13 to be precise - and the ML Faves for Good Team for this year's Women's Distance Festival has already formed and continues to grow.
We hope you'll plan to join us as we once again come together to support the work of the Center for Safety & Change. The 32nd annual edition of the 5K Run/Walk will again be held at Rockland Lake State Park in Congers. Maria Luisa Boutique is both a participant and sponsor; we hope you'll join the effort by participating - or simply making a much-appreciated donation.

This month certainly has Earth Day in the spotlight - but
as you know "every day is Earth Day" for us, so we just again offer a gentle reminder to join us in caring for our planet. Be mindful, recycle - and remember to bring your own bags wherever you go.
