SPRINGFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS
March 27, 2020

Dear SPS Parents:

Springfield Public Schools is here for you during this challenging time. We hope that all is well with your family.

As we conclude the first week of school closure, we have several updates regarding our district’s response to COVID-19:

  • Learning will resume on Monday from home. SPS At Home is the tool we will use to provide a variety of online and printed materials for pre-K, elementary, middle and high school students. We encourage you to visit www.sps.org/SPSatHome to begin to familiarize yourself with the learning platform. Our teachers will continue to provide guidance for students through email, Canvas announcements and virtual conferences.

  • Teachers continue to complete wellness checks for each of our students. More than 23,000 contacts have been made to ensure our students and their families have what they need during this unprecedented situation.

  • Grab-and-go meal service continues at all of our school locations. You may continue to pick up breakfast and/or lunch via carline anytime between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on weekdays - for anyone under the age of 18 years. More than 67,000 meals were provided by SPS this week.

  • Childcare is being provided for healthcare workers and emergency/first responders at four SPS locations to help ensure our community is able to respond to the pandemic emergency.

Technology Update
SPS will begin providing repair services for student devices on Monday. As needed, you will be able to drop off your student’s device for repair at any school via the carline. Service will be provided for cracked screens, touchpad and charging malfunctions, and other issues that inhibit your student’s work. Repairs will be limited to essential needs only and not cosmetic issues (chips, cracks, etc.). When you drop off the device for repair, you will be asked to provide your student’s name and your contact number so that we may contact you when the repair is complete. We anticipate that most repairs will be completed within five days, unless parts must be ordered. During your student’s wellness check, if you indicated that you do not have internet service at home , please be assured that the district is working to provide a solution and will be in touch with you directly very soon.

We’re In This Together
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we continue to work together during these uncertain days and weeks for our community, state and nation. We remain committed to meeting the needs of our students and families, while also supporting our community through it all.
