Five Things To Know

Reminder: Late-start Mondays begin next week

Starting Sept. 12, students begin their school day one hour later each Monday, which allows teachers time to work with colleagues around student learning and supports.

Monday student start times:

High schools* and Libby: 9 a.m.
Middle schools: 10 a.m.
Elementary schools: 9:30 a.m.

*NEWTech students will attend on a regular schedule.

Breakfast will still be available on Mondays 30 minutes prior to start time.

Providing structured time within the workday for teachers and other certificated staff to collaborate is an educational best practice consistent with other area school districts.

K-6 cross country and Hooptown Youth League registrations are open

SPS partners with Active4Youth to host cross country for students in grades K-6. Practices begin the week of Sept. 12, and first time trials are the week of Sept. 26.

SPS is also proud to partner with all Spokane County school districts, Hoopfest and AAU to form the Hooptown Youth League for kids in grades K-6. Practices begin the week of Oct. 17, and the games begin Nov. 5.

Busing Information

As the 2022-23 school year gets underway, please make sure you know your students' bus routes. If your student is not yet registered to ride the yellow school bus, register them here. High school students are eligible to use STA to get to school, if necessary.

Flett and Yasuhara middle schools celebrate grand openings

A huge thanks goes out to everybody involved in opening two new middle schools! Yasuhara and Flett middle schools kicked off the 2022-23 school year with ribbon cutting celebrations. View photos of the ceremonies here.

These new schools were made possible by public support of the 2018 bond. SPS remains incredibly thankful for the community's support!

Next year, we'll open Peperzak Middle School on Spokane's south hill and the re-built Sacajawea Middle School.

Annual Notification: Student Rights and Responsibilities

SPS distributes annually to all students Annual Notifications to inform them of their rights and responsibilities. This year, the Annual Notification can be found on the SPS website. Additionally, SPS has distributed copies to each school if you need a printed copy.

Complete policies and procedures are available in the principal’s office of each school, in Student Services at 200 N. Bernard, and on the Spokane Public Schools website: spokaneschools.org.

Students have certain rights as citizens and the school system cannot unduly infringe on those rights. Contained in the Annual Notification document are rules that define the reasonable limits of those rights, based on the rules and regulations established by the State of Washington.
