This month, we wrap up our monthly series for the Year of Prayer. In August, we'll kick off a "Year of Renewal," and we're excited to share more about this theme with you in the coming weeks. But before we are ready to turn our attention to the renewal of our parish and world, we have one last encouragement in our prayer lives - to pray BOLDLY.
Saint John reminds us in his first letter that "we have confidence in (Christ), that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us" (1 John 5:14). Saint James assures us that "the fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful" (James 5:16). Who can forget Saint Paul's encouragement to "Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again, rejoice" (Philippians 4:4). We hope that our prayer can model that of these saints, that we can be bold in our prayers for our family, our parish, and our world.
This week, Brittany Tull shares with us about the Jesus Prayer, a short prayer that we can pray often to remind us of God's mercy. Throughout the month, we'll dig into some other bold prayers, like the Prayer of Saint Francis, the spirituality of Saint Ignatius, and we'll go deeper into how to pray with and for others in public. We hope you can join us on this journey!
JULY PRAYER CHALLENGE
Pray with a friend..weekly
One way we can grow in our comfort and ability to pray is to pray out loud, with other people. This month, we hope you can "build your prayer muscles" by committing to pray with a friend at least once a week. Practice praying out loud, and try praying from the heart (although memorized prayers are great too). Building these muscles can help give us the boldness to pray at all times, whenever we have need!
