Family, Community, and Participation
At Home
We hope you’ve enjoyed learning a bit more about the Catholic Social Teaching theme of the “Call to Family, Community, and Participation” this month. While our weekly video series are directed towards the adults in your family, we also hear from parents asking for resources to bring these themes home, especially for young children. Below are a few curated resources we’ve found that can help your family explore the Call to Family, Community, and Participation more deeply!

Create a Family Mission Statement (Doing Good Together): Create a keepsake for your family that helps remind each member of the values of your family “mission.” When Ann and I prepare couples for marriage, we usually ask them what gifts their new family has to offer, or what their “mission” as a married couple will be. This is a great exercise for you to do together as a family and discover your own mission!
What is a Catholic Family Anyway (Our Sunday Visitor Kids): Do you ever compare your family to others, or wonder if you are “Catholic enough?” This helpful reflection helps us see the many ways that Catholic families can look, and encourages us in creating our own Domestic Church.
Family Prayer: Getting Back in the Swing of Things (OSV Kids): For many of us, the return to school has hit like a ton of bricks! Here are some practical tips for fostering a family habit of prayer, amidst a return to a busy season of life.

Pray the Intercession at Home with Your Kids (OSV Kids): Another tip for family prayer, this time looking at the intercessions at Mass, and adapting them for use at home.
Add Kindness to Your Family Routines (Doing Good Together): A number of ideas for how to be mindful of others during everyday routines, organized by common family activities (Breakfast, car rides, etc).
Catholic Sprouts Podcast (Catholic Sprouts): A five minute podcast designed for young listeners, helping to “plant the seeds of faith.” Perfect for the car ride to school, practice, or before bed.
