Renewing Hope through...
The Saint Pius X
Refugee Resettlement Program
in partnership with Catholic Charities
of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend (ccfwsb.org)
After the sudden evacuation of U.S. military troops in Afghanistan, many families were forced to flee with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. They need humanitarian support while starting afresh. Evacuees are currently stationed at safe haven camps until they can be resettled between now and March.

Catholic Charities has committed to resettling at least 30 Afghan individuals (the national resettlement program prioritizes family reunification) and our parish is planning to help!

SPX expects to welcome a large family to our community in early January. Knowing the generosity of our parish, we feel confident that we will be able to meet the needs of this effort. In order to make the project manageable, we have broken it down into specific tasks that are required at various stages of the six month process.

Renewing Hope for Refugees through Service
Volunteer Opportunities
There are several opportunities to share your time and talent, especially during the first few weeks and months after arrival as the refugee family becomes settled and self-sufficient. Visit StPius.net/RefugeeSettlement to learn more about volunteer opportunities and to access a questionnaire to sign up to serve. Volunteers will be called into action as soon as the family arrives (date TBD).

Donate Material Goods
In accordance with the federal government, Catholic Charities must provide specific items for each household. Saint Pius X is hosting a material goods drive to collect these necessary items. Visit StPius.net/RefugeeSettlement to sign up to donate new and/or gently-used (in good condition) items. All items will be collected January 2-9.

PEACE LIGHT:
FROM BETHLEHEM through
NORTH AMERICA
Blessing and Installation
Tuesday, December 21
following the 6:00 p.m. Mass in the PLC

Peace Light North America is dedicated to facilitating the distribution of the Peace Light from Bethlehem throughout the North American continent. Every year dedicated volunteer drivers move the Peace Light with oil lanterns and candles, as a continuous flame (not allowing the flame to extinguish) across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, starting with the ceremony at New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The SPX Pack 10 Boy Scouts received an incredible opportunity to share the Peace Light with the Saint Pius X Community! The Peace Light, symbolic of the Light of Christ especially evident at Christmas, is meant to promote peace, harmony and unity among all people of the world regardless of race, ethnicity or creed.
