State Route 18 Emergency Project in the “Narrows"

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY— The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) alerts the public that an Emergency Project in the “Narrows” has begun on State Route 18 (SR-18) in the San Bernardino Mountains. Weather permitting.

Contractors will be conducting repairs from Tuesday, July 8 through Friday, July 11, 2025. The project location is on State Route 18 in the “Narrows” from SR-138/SR-18 connector to Crest Forest Drive. Crews will be conducting a full closure of this section from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to safely conduct rock scaling operations.

This work is all part of an emergency project to make this section of State Route 18 safer for travelers from potential rockslides. Work will initially occur to clear oversized rocks, remove and replace wire mesh, and to build a concrete wall for slope stabilization.

If traveling during closure hours, State Route 138 (SR-138) will still be accessible from State Route 18 (SR-18) or utilize State Route 330 from Highland. Please adhere to all road closure signage to ensure the safe transport of equipment and crews.
